Strategic Management Of Wastewater From Intensive Rural Industries written by Nurudeen Abiola Oladoja and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-08-22 with Science categories.

This book provides insight into the environmental and ecological impacts of the operations of intensive rural industries and how these undesirable impacts can be effectively managed. In the developing economies, the different human empowerment and poverty alleviation schemes have produced myriads of intensive rural industries that littered States in these economies. These industries are often characterized by their small scale, outmoded technology, obsolete equipment, poor management and large water consumption. Since their operations usually consume large volume of fresh water, high magnitude of untreated wastewater is equally discharged. The huge consumption of freshwater puts a lot of stress on freshwater resource available for human use, and the discharge of contaminated wastewater from these industries disrupts the ecological balance. It has been reported that untreated industrial waste constitutes about two-thirds of the total waste discharge into water bodies, and the largest chunk of this is derived from rural enterprises. Therefore, the environmental cost of rural industrialization is enormous and needs to be examined. The evaluation of the quality characteristics, the socioeconomic impacts and the law guiding the generation and the discharge of the wastewater from specific rural industries are enunciated. The conventional practice and the trends in the effective management of specific wastewater samples are also discussed.

Hydroponics And Environmental Bioremediation written by Nitish Kumar and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-02-19 with Science categories.

Bioremediation is the use of biological interventions for mitigation of the noxious effects caused by pollutants in the environment including wastewater. It is very useful approach for a variety of applications in the area of environmental protection. It has become an attractive alternative to the conventional clean-up technologies that employ plants and their associated microorganisms to remove, contain, or render harmless environmental contaminants. Hydroponic systems, which utilize plants which are grown in a nutrient solution without soil, are expanding and raising great interest in the commercial and scientific community. They are engineered systems designed and constructed to utilize the natural processes involving macrophytes, media, and the associated microbial assemblages to assist in treating wastewaters. This is a relatively new approach in wastewater treatment by which a variety of emergent macrophytes are grown hydroponically on top of floating platforms with their roots developing freely into the flowing wastewater. The roots provide a support medium for attached microbial growth which participates in the treatment process.

Cadmium Toxicity In Water written by Amrit Kumar Jha and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-04-08 with Science categories.

This book sheds light on this global environmental issue and proposes solutions to reduce contamination through multi-disciplinary approaches. Water is considered a vital resource because it is necessary for all aspects of human and ecosystem survival. However, due to natural processes and anthropogenic activities, various pollutants have been added to the groundwater system. Among these, heavy metals are some of the most serious pollutants. Cd, a toxic heavy metal used in Ni-Cd batteries, the coloration of plastic and various discarded electronic products released into the water system causes serious health issues. The chronic exposure to Cd produces a wide variety of acute and chronic effects in humans. This edited book brings together a diverse group of researchers to address the challenges posed by global mass poisoning caused by cadmium contamination of water bodies. This book contains three sections. The first section describes the different sources and distribution of cadmium in water ecosystem. The second section explains the health risks linked to cadmium toxicity. The third section addresses sustainable cadmium toxicity mitigation strategies and the potential applications of recent biological technology in providing solutions.
