Wie konnten sich rechtsextreme Orientierungen in die Mitte der Gesellschaft drängen? Die vorliegende Studie will diese Kernfrage am Beispiel der Stadt Hennigsdorf beantworten. Sie soll zeigen, wie einige wenige Einwohner dagegen kämpfen und die Bevölkerung der Stadt, der Bürgermeister, die Stadtverwaltung, die Stadtverordnetenversammlung und die Pressevertreter darauf reagieren. Des Weiteren soll geklärt werden, welche Ansatzmöglichkeiten existieren, dem Rechtsextremismus in Hennigsdorf besser als zuvor zu begegnen. Zunächst werden die Bedingungen der Stadt Hennigsdorf, der Zugang zu den Probanden und der rechten Szene und die Art dargestellt sowie Interviews mit ausgewählten Vertretern der Institutionen, vor allem aber mit sechs rechtsextrem orientierten Jugendlichen, die auch porträtiert werden, aufgeführt. Weiterhin werden die verschiedenen Debatten um die Begriffe Rechtsextremismus und Demokratie dargelegt und auf die allgemeinen und für Hennigsdorf spezifischen rechtsextremen Erscheinungsformen vor allem in der Jugendkultur und ihrer Verankerung eingegangen. Anschließend werden die makrogesellschaftlichen Bedingungen für Rechtsextremismus in der Geschichte der DDR und den Rechtsextremismus, insbesondere in der späten DDR, als Ausdruck von Widerstand und Ressentiments dargestellt. Die besondere Akzentuierung von Gewalt und gewalttätigen Formationen am Ende der DDR liegt hierbei in und um Oranienburg – gewissermaßen als gesellschaftlicher Boden für eine sehr schnelle Ausweitung nach der Wiedervereinigung im Kontext schwerer sozialer, ökonomischer und mentaler Erschütterungen, die bis in die Familienkonflikte hineinreichen.

Barmherzigkeit, Wärme und Gesprächsbereitschaft aber sind wir auch den schlimmsten Tätern schuldig.“(Weiß:1990, S.5) Rechtsextremismus ist kein Jugendphänomen, sondern in allen Bevölkerungsschichten vertreten. In der restlichen Bevölkerung sowie bei den Gemeindevertretern herrscht Hilflosigkeit, Toleranz und oftmals auch Akzeptanz. Eine demokratische Gegenwehr bleibt in der Regel aus. Die Realität wird oft aus Angst vor negativen Reaktionen der Presse und/oder anderer Gemeinden - als aus Imagegründen - geleugnet. (Wagner: 1998a, S.23)Um das Phänomen Rechtsextremismus in all seinen Dimensionen zu verstehen, ist es notwendig zu klären, wo die Ursprünge rechtsextremer Orientierungen liegen und wie man diesen entgegentreten kann. Zudem ist es wichtig, sich denjenigen Menschen zu widmen, die bereits ein festes rechtsextremes Gedankenbild haben und Strategien und Möglichkeiten zu entwickeln, diese Menschen in die Gesellschaft zu integrieren und gleichzeitig ihre rechtsextreme Orientierung aufzubrechen. Zudem muss Toleranz und Akzeptanz in der Bevölkerung bekämpft werden. Nur so ist es einer Gesellschaft und einer Kommune möglich, Rechtsextremismus aus ihr zu verbannen. Diese Arbeit zeigt monographisch am Beispiel der Stadt Hennigsdorf (Brandenburg) wie sich rechtsextreme Orientierungen in die Mitte der Gesellschaft gedrängt haben, wie einige wenige Einwohner dagegen kämpfen und wie die Bevölkerung der Stadt, der Bürgermeister, die Stadtverwaltung, die Stadtverordnetenversammlung und die Pressevertreter darauf reagieren. Zudem will die vorliegende Arbeit klären, wie Rechtsextremismus generell entsteht und zeigen, dass es notwendig ist, die Dimensionen auf Mikro- und Makroebene gemeinsam zu analysieren und anzugehen. Anschließend liefert die Arbeit Ansatzmöglichkeiten, wie man Rechtsextremismus begegnen kann und welche Fehler die Stadt Hennigsdorf dabei macht. Abschließend wurde ein Leitfaden entwickelt, anhand dessen die Stadt Hennigsdorf den Rechtsextremismus gezielt bekämpfen kann.

The development of defensive strategies encompassing the fortification and privatization of the city has attracted significant attention during recent years, and has become particularly relevant in the aftermath of September 11th. Dealing with issues of risk, security and the spatial restructuring of contemporary western cities, this book examines how the perceived risk of terrorist attack led to changes in the physical form and institutional infrastructure of the city of London during the 1990s when the city was a prime terrorist target. The book analyses how the various formal and informal strategies adopted in the City attempted to reduce both the physical and financial risk of terrorism. This was undertaken through a series of place-specific security initiatives and risk management policies which led to increased fortification, a substantial rise in terrorism insurance premiums, and, changing institutional relations at a variety of spatial scales. It also argues that the security measures deployed were developed not in terms of an anti-terrorist effort, but in relation to the unintended by-products of these approaches such as crime reduction and enhanced traffic management capabilities.

In Experiments in Ethics, the philosopher Kwame Anthony Appiah explores how the new empirical moral psychology relates to the age-old project of philosophical ethics. Some moral theorists hold that the realm of morality must be autonomous of the sciences; others maintain that science undermines the authority of moral reasons. Appiah elaborates a vision of naturalism that resists both temptations. He traces an intellectual genealogy of the burgeoning discipline of "experimental philosophy," provides a balanced, lucid account of the work being done in this controversial and increasingly influential field, and offers a fresh way of thinking about ethics in the classical tradition.
