Reclaiming Our Children,Reclaiming our Schools offers both a comprehensive censure of the current corporate interest in privatizing public schooling as well as a framework for attaining meaningful education reform based in democracy and the combined will of the public. Using current research and sound philosophical and ethical arguments, Shyman argues for more attention to be paid to teacher expertise, participatory democratic practices, genuine valuation of ethnic and cultural diversity, attention to global citizenship and cooperation, and the prevention of private profit-based interests in public schooling policy and practice.

Are you trying your best to be a good parent but questioning if your best is good enough? When it comes to parenting, it's not a one-size-fits-all world. Just as each child is uniquely created, an approach can be tailored that is a custom fit for each child. The keys to forming that perfect fit are reliance on the Holy Spirit and the Word. Be assured that there is a spiritual battle being waged for the lives of believers' children. Remaining oblivious to the war practically ensures defeat. Children need us to be guardian warriors who boldly take authority and do what is necessary to avoid the snares, lures, and landmines that have been set for them. The war can be won without instilling fear. In fact, fear is one of the enemy's favorite weapons, so fearful parents are playing right into his hands. By discovering the basis for fear, it can be rooted out and replaced by faith and peace.

Busting Bureaucracy To Reclaim Our Schools written by Stephen B. Lawton and has been published by IRPP this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995 with Education categories.

In this book, the author argues that the bureaucratization of schooling has interfered with the process of education. The costs, complexity, and rigidity of the educational edifice leaves it unresponsive to parental concerns and reluctant to measure its own inadequacies such as illiteracy and high dropout rates among students. The author identifies two conceptual bases for action to address this problem: public choice theory and agency theory, discusses the issue of identity in its relation to education, and then makes the case for charter schools in Canada, stressing definitions of community, parental rights, and the need to combat bureaucratic tendencies. Two discussants respond to the author's analysis, one amplifying his call for charter schools and the other arguing that the basis for demanding reform is less clear than the author claims.

Reclaiming Radical Ideas in Schools provides support for every primary school in the provision of Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development (SMSC), the teaching of British values and preparation for life in modern Britain. Providing practical and tried-and-tested strategies, this resource will help primary schools work together to create an inclusive environment that focuses on reducing radicalisation and radical ideas. It will support schools in creating an ethos for young children where their questions about the world are explored and answered without fear or discrimination. Moffat is the author of No Outsiders in Our School: Teaching the Equality Act in Primary Schools which provides teachers with a curriculum that promotes equality for all sections of the community. Using the ‘No Outsiders’ model as a foundation, this new book complements it by putting emphasis on engaging parent communities in the school ethos. The resource includes 13 lesson plans to deliver with children and their parents in school-based workshops, with homework activities to follow. Each lesson is based around a picture book and includes fun activities alongside discussion of issues on individual differences; including race, gender and sexuality. The resource also provides guidance on how to deliver assemblies that support the ‘No Outsiders’ ethos and how to approach discussing terrorism with children. This is an invaluable resource for anyone working in a primary school setting, as well as trainee teachers, ITT providers and educational advisors. The aim is to extend the successful ‘No Outsiders’ ethos beyond the school gates to the community to ensure that we are working together to develop a safe and cohesive British society.

Children are disconnected from the experience that is in the real life in their communities and this disconnect causes serious learning and behavior problems. We adults understand that we have a problem, but we don't understand that the problem cannot be fixed by turning the children over to experts and bureaucrats. Effective learning is a close-up business. Children need -- they must have -- purposeful contact with adults who know them and care about them. We fail our children when we adults avoid the fact that it is us -- all of us -- not distant experts and bureaucrats, who must provide the young people with a meaningful context for learning. This book, which was written by a concerned granddaddy, seeks solutions, not fault finding. The book demonstrates, conceptually and by example, that all communities have the resources to provide their children with good educations. Grandparents, defined as everybody who connects with children in the easy and natural way that grandparents do, are an enormously valuable resource for every community; and, further, grandparents can help government agencies to remember not only that learning is local but that politics also is local. This understanding -- that both learning and politics must be local -- is the key to achieving strong communities and strong schools; the purpose of the book is to help provide the needed understanding.

Why School written by Mike Rose and has been published by New Press, The this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-02-04 with Education categories.

Why School? is a little book driven by big questions. What does it mean to be educated? What is intelligence? How should we think about intelligence, education, and opportunity in an open society? Drawing on forty years of teaching and research and "a profound understanding of the opportunities, both intellectual and economic, that come from education" (Booklist), award-winning author Mike Rose reflects on these and other questions related to public schooling in America. He answers them in beautifully written chapters that are both rich in detail and informed by an extensive knowledge of history, the psychology of learning, and the politics of education. This paperback edition includes three new chapters showing how cognitive science actually narrows our understanding of learning, how to increase college graduation rates, and how to value the teaching of basic skills. An updated introduction by Rose, who has been hailed as "a superb writer and an even better storyteller" (TLN Teachers Network), reflects on recent developments in school reform. Lauded as "a beautifully written work of literary nonfiction" (The Christian Science Monitor) and called "stunning" by the New Educator Journal, Why School? offers an eloquent call for a bountiful democratic vision of the purpose of schooling.
