Normal adults do not have any difficulty in recognizing their homes. But can artificial systems do in the same way as humans? This book collects interdisciplinary evidences and presents an answer from the perspective of computing, namely, the theory of cognitive prism. To recognize an environment, an intelligent system only needs to classify objects, structures them based on the connection relation (not through measuring!), subjectively orders the objects, and compares with the target environment, whose knowledge is similarly structured. The intelligent system works, therefore, like a prism: when a beam of light (a scene) reaches (is perceived) to an optical prism (by an intelligent system), some light (objects) is reflected (are neglected), those passed through (the recognized objects) are distorted (are ordered differently). So comes the term 'cognitive prism'! Two fundamental propositions used in the theory can be informally stated as follow: an orientation relation is a kind of distance comparison relation -- you being in front of me means you being nearer to my face than to my other sides; a pair of objects being connected means any object, precisely the space occupied by the object, can be moved to a place where it connects with the pair.

The study is linked to the analysis of voluntary disclosure present in the financial statements of the companies. In particular, it is interesting to analyze that part of the relational capital defined as CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) and the part of information falling within the risk disclosure (environmental and social). It is known that in 2017, for large organizations, the sustainability report, also known as the social report, also referred to as a non-financial statement pursuant to Legislative Decree 254/2016, will be mandatory. This Working Paper is linked to the previous Working Paper on Sustainability n.1 "Disclosure on sustainable development and the greater value recognized to the company by the market" by the same Author who analyzed the relevance of disclosure on sustainable development and environmental policies present in the financial statements of companies. This research is still in the first phase of study as only the financial statements for the year 2010 of the 21 selected companies have been analyzed. In this work, compared to the previous one, new keywords taken from the guidelines on CSR disclosure have been added with consequent expansion of the bibliography. The research continues with the detection of the keywords on sustainability deriving from the analysis of the financial statements of the companies selected from 2011 to 2017. The study of the evolution of the CSR disclosure of the two categories "Environmental" and "Social" will be the final goal of this research on sustainability. In this work, compared to the previous one, new keywords taken from the guidelines on CSR disclosure have been added with consequent expansion of the bibliography. Nontraditional Threats to Security The events of September 11, 2001 have sharpened the debate over the meaning of being secure. Before 9/11 there were warnings in all parts of the world that social and environmental changes were occurring. While there was prosperity in North America and Western Europe, there was also increasing recognition that local and global effects of ecosystem degradation posed a serious threat. Trekking from Cairo to Cape Town thirty years after living in Africa as a young teacher, for example, travel writer Paul Theroux concluded that development in sub-Saharan Africa had failed to improve the quality of life for 300 million people: “Africa is materially more decrepit than it was when I first knew it—hungrier, poorer, less educated, more pessimistic, more corrupt, and you can’t tell the politicians from the witch-doctors” (2002). While scholars and historians will debate the causes of 9/11 for some time, one message is clear: An often dizzying array of nontraditional threats and complex vulnerabilities define security today. We must understand them, and deal with them, or suffer the consequences. Environmental security has always required att- tion to nontraditional threats linked closely with social and economic well-being.
