Faithful to Save is an exposition and analysis of Pannenberg's doctrine of reconciliation as it appears in his three-volume Systematic Theology. It suggests that this doctrine is best approached by bearing in mind its three most salient characteristics, all of which are inter-dependent, and when kept in view make the essential tenets of Pannenberg's account transparent: God acts freely and immediately in and for creation; history is a function of the faithfulness of God to his creation; reconciliation is an expression of this faithfulness towards sinful creation - God's 'holding fast' to creation despite its self-destructive self-assertion. On the basis of a detailed examination of the central texts, it argues that Pannenberg's doctrine of reconciliation at once marks out God's action in the world as the true Infinite and issues an invitation to consider how such a God extends himself in reconciling love to his creatures so that their finite creatureliness is at every turn affirmed and found to be in the end 'good'.

God moves first with grace and comes to us in Christ to reconcile us to himself. He transforms us and accepts us into the covenant relationship. God clothes us, like the prodigal son, in the robe of righteousness and gives us a place in his family. The heart of the gospel is Jesus Christ, through whom God came to us and became human yet sinless, to restore true humanity in us. In Christ, we are a new creation, reconciled with God and with each other as God's own people, saved from being self-centered. Thus, Augsburger says, reconciliation surely has a social effect.God's self-disclosure reaches its full expression in Jesus Christ, who is our Savior, Lord, Mentor, Intercessor, and Reconciler. We become a new community of disciples living in solidarity with Jesus. Salvation and ethics flow from our relation to Jesus; we identify with Jesus, to live by God's will. The gospel makes love possible. The church needs a new sense of the global and situational nature of God's reign, sharing God's grace personally with all peoples, to enable them to live with equity, justice, and mutuality. This book holds together the evangelistic and social dimensions of reconciliation as the core of the gospel. 264 Pages.

This is a collection of Bible studies encouraging discussion centring on the topics of healing, reconciliation, community, calling and mission. Commentators from many nations and cultures provide well-informed study aids and suggestions for further exploration by adult groups and childrens classes, drawing on passages from both the Old and New Testaments. These texts from scripture have been selected to provide illumination of the theme of the World Council of Churches conference on world mission and evangelism, held in Athens, Greece, in May 2005. The context of todays world is recognised by the authors - a context of economic globalisation, exclusion and violence. At the same time, the authors reaffirm and proclaim the hope of the gospel: By grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your doing; it is the gift of God (Eph. 2:8). Church groups throughout the world are invited to join in the conversation undertaken in Athens, and in the ministries of reconciliation and healing to which all Christian communities are called.

In today's world, relationships and lives are destroyed by conflict, greed, deception, betrayal, abandonment, abuse and other cruel acts of violence. Stories of Ponzi schemes, unethical financial dealings, infidelity, gang violence and terrorism are common place in the news. Such acts result in financial ruin, divorce, physical pain, emotional trauma and even death of loved ones. Our first instinct is to pay back evil for evil and take our own revenge. Yet is that the best course? This book explores and examines some tough questions, including: - Is it possible to recover from the loss, grief and trauma resulting from an injustice? - Will post-traumatic stress plague a victim of violence forever? - How can relationships be restored after betrayal or adultery? - Is it possible to forgive someone who has cruelly or violently injured us? - Can we actually "love our enemies" as instructed in the Bible? - Can we get forgiveness from God after committing violence, infidelity or murder? - Is there a key to personal healing, no matter what someone has experienced? The good news is there is a key to personal healing and a way to recover from the losses, grief and traumas of life. And it's called forgiveness. The Parable System of Forgiveness and Reconciliation provides a practical, proven method of forgiving anyone for any type of injustice. It also describes how to restore and reconcile broken relationships. This invaluable resource will help you do one of the hardest things you'll ever do for your own personal healing: forgive someone who has betrayed, abused, violated, or committed a violent offense against you or a loved one.
