First published in 1978, Reconstructing Educational Psychology presents a new look at topics of central social concern such as children’s rights, the community approach to children’s problems, the inutility of traditional concepts of intelligence and personality, the interactionist approach to the concept of ‘deviant’ behaviour and the invalidity of psychiatric concepts of ‘maladjustment’. New ideas are the core of the book. It begins with historical and personal accounts of the origin and the nature of the situation of educational psychology. It spells out the way in which new thinking determines new practice, and the extent to which progress has been made. The book will be of interest to teachers, psychologists as well as to students of pedagogy and psychology.

"Phillida Salmon offers an alternative vision to the consumerist images of education which have prevailed in political thinking. Using the approach of personal construct psychology, she shows how meaning is centrally important. This has profound implications for understanding how people learn and why they often fail to learn." "In tracing the logic of this approach in education, the author considers the position of teachers and the possibilities and constraints of their own learning. For pupils, school learning is often unofficial and unintended. In this, the culture of school institutions plays a major part. Differential pupil destinies are carried by 'special' categorization. The meaning of such labels is examined in this study."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. All Rights Reserved

Reconstructing Agency In Developmental And Educational Psychology written by Paul Downes and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-09-05 with Education categories.

This book reconstructs the foundations of developmental and educational psychology and fills an important gap in the field by arguing for a specific spatial turn so that human growth, experience and development focus not only on time but space. This regards space not simply as place. Highlighting concrete cross-cultural relational spaces of concentric and diametric spatial systems, the book argues that transition between these systems offers a new paradigm for understanding agency and inclusion in developmental and educational psychology, and for relating experiential dimensions to causal explanations. The chapters examine key themes for developing concentric spatial systemic responses in education, including school climate, bullying, violence, early school leaving prevention and students’ voices. Moreover, the book proposes an innovative framework of agency as movement between concentric and diametric spatial relations for a reconstruction of resilience. This model addresses the vital neglected issue of resistance to sheer cultural conditioning and goes beyond the foundational ideas of Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory, as well as Vygotsky, Skinner, Freud, Massey, Bruner, Gestalt and postmodern psychology to reinterpret them in dynamic spatial systemic terms. Written by an internationally renowned expert, this book is a valuable resource for academics, researchers and postgraduate students in the areas of educational and developmental psychology, as well as related areas such as personality theory, health psychology, social work, teacher education and anthropology.

Reconstructing Education Through Mindful Attention written by Oren Ergas and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-01-21 with Education categories.

This book reconstructs the idea and practice of education. Rather than conceiving of education as a process we undergo in which our minds are shaped by a social vision, Oren Ergas turns this notion of education on its head, arguing instead that we ourselves construct education. The multitude of problems with formal education and schooling, such as violence, inequality, and low achievements, are then seen as reflections of problems of the mind, meaning that close study of the mind is necessary if these problems are to be successfully tackled. Through philosophy, neuroscience and psychology, this book proposes a new perspective on 'educational' theory, practice and research. It will be of great interest to students and teachers, scholars of education, and educational policy-makers.

This book is designed to introduce professors and administrators in higher education to the philosophical, theoretical, and research support for using a constructivist perspective on learning to guide the reconstruction of undergraduate education. It presents an original framework for systematically linking educational philosophy and learning theories to their implications for teaching practice. In this volume, Innes summarizes the sources he found most useful in developing his own set of teaching principles and course development process, and makes an argument for a particular perspective on learning--transactional constructivism--which is consistent with the philosophy of John Dewey and supported by current theory and research in learning science. Transactional constructivism, a combined approach, builds on the strengths of two competing views: psychological constructivism and the sociocultural perspective. Reconstructing Undergraduate Education: Using Learning Science to Design Effective Courses: *overviews the philosophical and theoretical underpinnings of the teaching model that is the focus of the volume; *presents a summary of Dewey's educational philosophy and connects his work to current theory and research in learning science; *examines psychological constructivism, one of the basic positions within the range of learning theories that takes a constructivist perspective; *offers a case study example of a course designed and taught from this perspective; *reviews the sociocultural and the transactional constructivist perspectives; *explores the quality of dialogue and disciplinary discourse in the classroom--an issue that is critical to the success of models derived from a transactional constructivist perspective on learning; and *explores broader issues related to reform in higher education. This volume is a vital resource for all professionals involved in undergraduate education.

Excerpt from The Psychology of Learning: An Advance d104 in Educational Psychology In this book I have tried to state every thing that is known about learning. All the experimental work that throws any light on the nature of learning has been carefully examined, and in the light of the experimental results I have endeavored to give the present impartial verdict of educational psychology. Throughout, I have tried to keep within the facts. When the evidence does not warrant a definite conclusion, I say so. The few cases of theory and speculation are plainly labeled as such. The practical significance to the teacher of the facts discussed is pointed out. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Outlines Of Educational Psychology written by William Henry Pyle and has been published by Forgotten Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-06-16 with Psychology categories.

Excerpt from The Outlines of Educational Psychology: An Introduction to the Science of Education The fact that we have had no general text-book in educational psychology has led to the preparation of this book, which is the outgrowth of the work with my own classes. I have endeavored to select for treatment those facts and principles of psychology, fairly well established, that have evident and direct bearing upon the problems of teaching. The time is at hand when every step in educational procedure must have scientific justification. This can come in the main from only one source, - the crucial test of experimental determination. If this volume contributes, in some small measure, toward the end of making education more scientific, I shall feel that its publication will be justified. It has been my aim to be careful and conservative, to keep within the warrant of established fact. However, I realize that nearly every page shows the need of more facts, more data. Experimental psychology is a thing of only yesterday; educational psychology is a new-born infant of today. But it is an infant of great promise. The army of trained investigators that is attacking the myriad problems of the school, will give us, even in a decade, results of great importance to education. But the work must be carefully done. It is my belief that a text-book should be a mere outline, to be elaborated by teacher and students. The questions and exercises and the references will help toward this elaboration.
