This book deals with the recording, modelling and visualization of cultural heritage (anthropogenic objects and natural scenes) and related processes. The areas discussed include data acquisition, using a variety of sensors (mainly optical sensors and laser scanners); platforms and mobile systems; data management and Spatial Information Systems; 3D modeling; and reconstruction, visualization and animation; Virtual and Augmented Reality, including innovative software and hardware systems; applications and interdisciplinary projects. A central focus is the development of methods for automated data processing. The aim of the workshop was to survey recent developments, trends, and new approaches and to bring together the various heterogeneous groups active in cultural heritage (sponsors, archaeologists and architects, scientists in remote sensing, photogrammetry, computer vision and computer graphics etc.). The involvement of these groups, representing both producers and users of information, allowed a cross-fertilisation and a multidisciplinary treatment of the workshop topics. This book offers a comprehensive selection of high-quality contributions from leading international research institutions and other organisations active in cultural heritage, treating theoretical issues as well as projects and applications and representing the cutting edge of this key subject as presented at the workshop organised by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich at Monte Verità, Ascona, Switzerland on 22-27 May 2005.

Archaeologizing Heritage written by Michael Falser and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-05-31 with Social Science categories.
This book investigates what has constituted notions of "archaeological heritage" from colonial times to the present. It includes case studies of sites in South and Southeast Asia with a special focus on Angkor, Cambodia. The contributions, the subjects of which range from architectural and intellectual history to historic preservation and restoration, evaluate historical processes spanning two centuries which saw the imagination and production of "dead archaeological ruins" by often overlooking living local, social, and ritual forms of usage on site. Case studies from computational modelling in archaeology discuss a comparable paradigmatic change from a mere simulation of supposedly dead archaeological building material to an increasing appreciation and scientific incorporation of the knowledge of local stakeholders. This book seeks to bring these different approaches from the humanities and engineering sciences into a trans-disciplinary discussion.

"This book presents an overview of the most recent advancements in archaeological methods and technologies in the field of Etruscan archaeology, aiming to move the discipline into a new era of technological innovation and multidisciplinary collaboration. The book covers a wide range of topics, including digital technologies for studying texts and inscriptions, remote sensing technologies for understanding cityscapes and landscapes, spatial analysis techniques for studying geopolitical patterns and urban configurations, cognitive archaeology for exploring Etruscan funerary rituals, conservation practices for preserving archaeological structures and paintings, the application of neuroscience to study the aesthetic impact of Etruscan artifacts, paleoenvironmental studies to understand the relationships between environment and society in ancient Etruria, and a multidisciplinary approach to studying ancient textiles. The final chapter introduces the field of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential applications in Etruscan archaeology, discussing the limitations and opportunities of AI in archaeological interpretation and the concept of the past as a "multiverse." By embracing interdisciplinary approaches, Etruscan archaeology can contribute to our understanding of the complex relationships between people, their environment, and the processes of urbanization, mobility, and historical development in ancient Italy and beyond"-- Provided by publisher.
