Taken captive by a Shawnee war party wasn't how Charity Edmonson hoped to escape an unwanted marriage. Nor did Shawnee warrior Wicomechee expect to find the treasure promised by his grandfather's vision in the unpredictable red-headed girl. George III's English Red-Coats, unprincipled colonial militia, prejudice and jealousy are not the only enemies Charity and Wicomechee will face before they can hope for a peaceful life. The greatest obstacle to happiness is in their own hearts. As they struggle through bleak mountains and cold weather, facing wild nature and wilder men, Wicomechee and Charity must learn to trust each other.

A young adult /adult fiction that is told from a young girls perspective and imagination that takes us away on an unforgettable journey. It weaves two stories, one of a family's experience with keeping a loved one in their home while moving through the dying process with the help of Hospice. It is also a story of a Grandmother and her grand-daughters journey into another world where birds are their twin souls who journey with them throughout life in so many subtle ways. I am really excited about this story and feel it came from my heart with the hope it can find a place of healing for anyone going through the loss of a loved one. However, it focuses on a child's interpretation that brings an element of fantasy and adventure into their journey into life's final months. It is also written as a resource to how Hospice Care can help a whole new way of experiencing the dying and letting go process of our beloveds with dignity. It also gives a great deal of honor to birds with both a scientific as well as symbolic information about these particular characters, who as I said before are twin souls, our reflections. The book has been a collaborative effort by my niece, who has beautifully illustrated the story, my mothers own enthusiasm and her great desire that we create this story, and my burning desire to put this story to page. Life and Death is our whole journey and this book intends to express the joy and the sorrow that weave together to make our lives worthy of celebration from start to finish.

"The Song of the Cardinal" is a fascinating story of the life of a redbird, or Kentucky cardinal, as it is popularly called, who is born in the valley of the Wabash. The author possesses the soul of an artist and a poet, which enables her to invest the story with the charm of a rich and vivid imagination; while her knowledge of the habits and peculiarities of the redbird and the love she feels for the cardinal family impart a living interest to her work that makes the reader enter into the joys and tribulations, the triumphs, failures, and final victory of the hero, with much the same personal interest one feels in the leading figures of a well-told romance of life. Into the web and woof of the story the author has also woven a beautiful picture of an old man and woman who through the song and the presence of the cardinal are brought again into the loving, sympathetic nearness to each other that marked the golden days of their early married life.

Red Bird written by Mary Oliver and has been published by Beacon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-04-01 with Poetry categories.

Red bird came all winter / firing up the landscape / as nothing else could. So begins Mary Oliver's twelfth book of poetry, and the image of that fiery bird stays with the reader, appearing in unexpected forms and guises until, in a postscript, he explains himself: "For truly the body needs / a song, a spirit, a soul. And no less, to make this work, / the soul has need of a body, / and I am both of the earth and I am of the inexplicable / beauty of heaven / where I fly so easily, so welcome, yes, / and this is why I have been sent, to teach this to your heart." This collection of sixty-one new poems, the most ever in a single volume of Oliver's work, includes an entirely new direction in the poet's work: a cycle of eleven linked love poems-a dazzling achievement. As in all of Mary Oliver's work, the pages overflow with her keen observation of the natural world and her gratitude for its gifts, for the many people she has loved in her seventy years, as well as for her disobedient dog, Percy. But here, too, the poet's attention turns with ferocity to the degradation of the Earth and the denigration of the peoples of the world by those who love power. Red Bird is unquestionably Mary Oliver's most wide-ranging volume to date.

Not your typical book about grief, the redbird sings the song of hope is the perfect telling of what grieving people wish others knew. Kandy Noles Stevens unapologetically explains what isnt always helpful to the bereaved, but does so with grace and wit. Through her personal stories, she provides practical ideas of how to bring comfort to those who are hurting. In an engaging Southern style, Kandy writes about real people (including some pretty colorful ones) who have loved her family in their darkest days. Infused in every page are hope-filled words of Gods faithfulness, including the sending of one redbird when her family needed it the most.

Our love affair with folk songs runs as deep as the enduring power of music, nature, creativity, and the longings of the human heart. Artist Jennie Smith celebrates the tradition with her illustrated renderings of thirteen soulful songs, including time-honored Scottish ballads, classics by the likes of the Carter Family, contemporary favorites by Gillian Welch, and more. Smith's art—hopeful, sincere, and delicate—adds an unexpected and charming dimension to a familiar genre. With a foreword from contemporary folk legend Michael Hurley, complete lyrics, and playable tablature or sheet music for each song, this is a keepsake collection for the whole family to treasure.
