2023rd Edition. When does the past begin and when does the future end? Red Giant Star: A dystopian, yet still plausible notion. Konstantin T. Salmann What Goodreads.com readers are saying about this book: **** Dive into a cosmic adventure with the "Red Giant Star: Trilogy" by Konstantin Salmann! This captivating trilogy takes you on a thrilling journey through space and time, blending science and fiction seamlessly. From vivid world-building to complex characters, the author's imagination shines brilliantly. Each book in the trilogy offers a unique twist on the age-old quest for exploration and discovery, with characters who leap off the pages and into your heart. While the plot can be a bit dense at times, the payoff is worth it! The climax and resolution leave you pondering the mysteries of the universe long after the final page. Overall, "Red Giant Star: Trilogy" is a cosmic gem, earning 4 stars for its ambition, creativity, and unforgettable characters. *** I liked it! Where to start? The thing that I loved the most, is that the author is very descriptive in his writing. This makes it easy for me to imagine the world and story he built in a way that I can plough through the book with ease. But some of the prose is a bit janky, but it doesn’t affect the enjoyment that much. I think it is because the author tries to do more than just novel? It is unique it that aspect .......... Without spoiling too much, the author has built an interesting world. It would be cool to visit it someday, if it exists! (Cause who knows, maybe it does?) **** I loved this story. What a planet Errat is.. And the particle aliens. Nevon is hit by a vehicle and wakes up in another unknown territory. He has amnesia. But as soon he discovers it's not earth things are getting very different. What I loved about the book is that the author is very descriptive about this. So at one point I started to believe that this planet is real... Another thing is pace. Something is happening at every page. I wish author write more books and make it a bigger series. **** This book is an ambitious project to imagine how our world could look like in 200 years from now. The story touches a number of topics that are especially relevant in our world today: the role of technology in societies, race relations, surveillance, freedom, work (or lack thereof), and the role or function of citizens toward their societies.... ***** "A feeling of security is not brought on by the environment, but the people that surround you." This statement from the start of the book is present up to the end...... ***** Okay. I have to say that this book is wonderful and kind of a prophecy of what the future might look like. I enjoyed the flow of the novel, the setting, the description and the climax. All of this drives the reader to just turn to the next page. It's not something you can just dive into, and kudos to the author for that. Really a good job by the author......

This thesis provides new insights into the seemingly anomalous ubiquity of lithium-rich red giant stars. The theory of stellar evolution, one of the most successful models of modern astrophysics, predicts that red giant stars should display negligible levels of lithium (Li) on their surfaces. However, Li-rich giants, defined as those showing more than three times the Li content of the Sun, are found everywhere astronomers look in apparent defiance of established theory. The author addresses this problem, analyzing the different possible explanations for such an anomaly, which include interaction with a binary companion, the production of Li in the interior of the star with its subsequent transport to stellar exteriors, and the stellar interaction with planets. The author focuses on this last possibility, where the Li enrichment may be due to the ingestion of planets or brown dwarfs as the stars in question grew in size while becoming giants. She shows that this process is indeed able to explain an important fraction of giants with Li levels above the three times solar threshold, but that some other mechanism is needed to explain the remaining fraction. While this is an important discovery in its own right, the result that makes this thesis groundbreaking is its demonstration that the threshold between Li-normal and Li-rich is mass dependent rather than a fixed proportion of the Sun’s content. This corrects a fundamental misapprehension of the phenomenon and opens up a new framework in which to understand and solve the problem. Finally, the author presents interesting observational applications and samples with which to test this new approach to the problem of Li enrichment in giants.

Red giant stars are evolutionarily advanced objects in the closing stages of their nuclear burning lifetime. Observed with increasing spectral coverage they display a variety of unusual phenomena. Many are characterized by peculiar (non-solar) surface chemical compositions which provide otherwise unobtainable clues to interior nucleosynthesis, mixing and evolution. Others may have received their chemical peculiarities by mass transfer from a companion. This book reports on the proceedings of the International Astronomical Union Colloquium 106. It contains discussions on many aspects of these stars, combining theory and observation to interpret these objects in terms of their evolutionary history. There are 20 review papers, 69 abstracts and short contributed papers and a complete transcript of the valuable summary panel discussion. Professional astronomers will find this book useful as a reference work which incorporates current research on the modelling and evolution of these unstable stars.

Exciting results are blooming, thanks to a convergence between unprecedented asteroseismic data obtained by the satellites CoRoT and KEPLER, and state-of-the-art models of the internal structure of red giants and of galactic evolution. The pulsation properties now available for thousands of red giants promise to add valuable and independent constraints to current models of structure and evolution of our galaxy. Such a close connection between these domains opens a new very promising gate in our understanding of stars and galaxies. In this book international leaders in the field offer a wide perspective of the recent advancements in: Asteroseismology of red giants Models of the atmosphere, internal structure, and evolution of red giants Stellar population synthesis and models of the Milky Way

In recent years, it has become clear that the red-giant phase is one of the most dramatic periods in a star's life, when all of its parts become involved in ways that have both direct and indirect observational consequences. This is most particularly true of low- and intermediate mass stars during the second ascent of the giant branch. Such stars bring to their surfaces products of nucleosynthesis currently taking place in their deep interiors, they pulsate as Mira variables, develop extended outward-flowing atmospheres that may exhibit maser properties, and shed great quantities of matter, sometimes highly processed, into the inter stellar medium. The manner in which processed matter is brought to the surface is far from being completely explained, and the precise mechanism or mechanisms whereby matter is ejected from the stellar surface (whether by deposition of Alfven waves, radiation pressure on grains, or as a consequence of so me large scale envelope instability) has yet to be elucidated to every one's satisfaction. The purpose of the second workshop in Astrophysics, organized by the "Advanced School of Astronomy", was to bring together experts on all the physical processes occurring in red giants in an effort to emphasize the interrelatedness of these individual processes, and to encourage a dia logue among experts that might serve to initiate a synthesis, or at least sharpen our understanding of the most important problems to address in the future.
