This book is open access under a CC BY 4.0 license. The authors of this book advise the economies of the European Union to become more entrepreneurial in promoting innovation and economic growth. The authors propose a reform strategy with respect to several aspects to achieve this goal. Starting with the rule of law and the protection of property rights; the tax system; the authors deal with regulations governing savings, capital and finance, and the organization of labor markets and social insurance systems. Framework strategies related to the regulations governing goods and service markets, bankruptcy and insolvency are also put forward. A core understanding and future path is also provided towards R&D, commercialization and knowledge spillovers; human capital investments; and informal institutions.

This Handbook provides a systematic and analytical approach to the various dimensions of international, ethnic and domestic conflict over the uses of national history in education since the end of the Cold War. With an upsurge in political, social and cultural upheaval, particularly since the fall of state socialism in Europe, the importance of history textbooks and curricula as tools for influencing the outlooks of entire generations is thrown into sharp relief. Using case studies from 58 countries, this book explores how history education has had the potential to shape political allegiances and collective identities. The contributors highlight the key issues over which conflict has emerged – including the legacies of socialism and communism, war, dictatorships and genocide – issues which frequently point to tensions between adhering to and challenging the idea of a cohesive national identity and historical narrative. Fur die Geschichtswissenschaft ist das 19. JAhrhundert von besonderer Bedeutung. IN diesem Saeculum setzten sich nicht nur die Ideen der Aufklarung durch, die das historische Denken nachhaltig befruchteten und veranderten. AUch die Geschichtsvermittlung nahm notwendig neue Zuge an. Denn die pragmatische Geschichtsauffassung, die nach den Ursachen des Wandels suchte und dabei die Motive des menschlichen Handelns als solche entdeckte, machte die Lebensklugheit zum neuen MaSS der Geschichte und ihrer Vermittlung. Geschichte, die ursachliche Zusammenhange erklaren will, konnte im Rahmen der Vermittlung nicht langer in katechetischer Form vonstatten gehen. NUr in erzahlter Weise lassen sich solche Zusammenhange darstellen und vermitteln. FOlgerichtig wandelten die Lehrbucher der Geschichte ihr Gesicht: sie mutierten von katechetischen zu narrativen Darstellungsformen. DAs veranschaulicht die Dokumentation der Lehrbucher von Hilmar Curas (1723) und Johann Martin Schrockh (1753), die im vorliegenden Band durch eine differentielle Analyse erganzt wird.
