This historical and organizational institutionalist study compares these countries to trace the evolution of their skill regimes from the 1960s to today‘s era of Europeanization, focusing especially on the impact of the Bologna and Copenhagen processes.

Modularisation Of Vocational Education In Europe written by Hubert Ertl and has been published by Symposium Books Ltd this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-01-01 with Education categories.

This book examines modularisation in the German system of initial vocational education and training – an issue that is a matter of intense debate by educationists and politicians in Germany. After examining the underlying concept of modularisation, Hubert Ertl looks at approaches to it in Spain, Scotland, France and the Netherlands, before examining in detail the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) framework in England and Wales. The author demonstrates how the strengths and weaknesses of NVQs (and their functional position within the education and training system) are particularly significant to the strategy of modularisation in German initial training that he goes on to propose. This strategy recommends the evolutionary development of the elements of occupational profiles into self-contained modules, and identifies the ways in which these elements have to be transformed in order to fulfil the functions of modules in a modularised training system. The author hopes that the restructured system may incorporate modules developed in co-operation with European partners and so link to other national training systems.

Vocational education often is ignored during discussions of secondary education reform even though it accounts for between 25 percent and 79 percent of upper secondary enrollment in the former centrally-planned countries of the European Union. Based on information, data, and feedback from most of these countries, this paper develops a set of propositions about vocational education reform, not with a view to prescribing a detailed "one-size-fits-all" strategy, but rather it derives some principles that continued reform of vocational education could take into account, to the benefit of fiscal ef.

The structural problems present in vocational education in France and reform efforts under way to solve them were studied. Eighteen experts from government, science, and industry were interviewed, and statistics and other relevant publications were analyzed. The development of the French initial training system was outlined, and trends in demography, education, and employment as a platform for vocational training reform in France in the 1980s were examined. The educational policy debate on reform of the vocational education system and related state measures to improve the levels of general and vocational education, reduce the number of school dropouts, and increase the number of vocational baccalaureate holders were outlined along with efforts to restructure vocational education certificates and transitions within the education system. Efforts to strengthen the links between the vocational secondary schools and industry, upgrade industrial apprentice training, help integrate youth into working life, and develop new forms of state intervention within the vocational training system were examined. The analysis indicated that, despite their apparent convergence in recent years, the differences between the French and German vocational education systems are too great to permit successful assimilation of the German model in France in the foreseeable future.
