Esta historia comienza en una finca de grandes viñedos, y bodegas donde elaboran uno de los mejores vinos del mundo, allí viven las personas que trabajan en los viñedos y en las bodegas son familia que tienen varios hijos los cuales casi siempre ayudan a sus padres con las tareas de la finca. El hijo de una de esas familias es el protagonista de esta historia, nació y creció en esa finca, cuando cumplió los 18 años le hicieron una gran fiesta, luego lo llamaron para hacer el servicio militar que era obligatorio. Estaba de novio con la hija de un matrimonio del lugar, a la cual los padres ignoraban de ese noviazgo, pero se veían cuando cosechaban la uva, ya que era la época de levantar los frutos de los viñedos, para luego procesar el vino. Por desgracia el país se declaro en guerra con otro país, mucho más poderoso en todos los sentidos, así fue que como a otros casi niños los llevaron a una guerra injusta e innecesaria, donde murieron muchos jóvenes inocentes, que pelearon sin saber porque lo hacían, unos murieron en el enfrentamiento, otros de hambre o de frío, ya que no tenían el equipo necesario para sobrevivir en un lugar donde todo estaba cubierto de nieve. Carlos que era el nombre del protagonista, encontró una cueva donde sobrevivió con un soldado enemigo al cual salvó por caridad, y se hicieron grandes amigos, pasaron juntos muchas angustias pero al final tuvieron que separase, el regreso a su país donde lo creían muerto.
