This book addresses one of the major challenges of immunology today that is being directed to the translation of the rapidly emerging volume of basic science contributions of immunology to clinical medicine. In so doing, the book systemically introduces and discusses concepts, classifications, phenotypic and functional descriptions of regulatory T (Treg) cells in health and disease. The authors of the 15 chapters were selected from among the most qualified experts in the field of Treg cell research who provide a comprehensive overview of Treg cells and their biology in the ensuing chapters. The beginning chapters provide a useful contemporary classification of Treg cell populations and then progress to chapters that explore basic mechanisms of Treg cell function and epigenetic control. In addition to descriptions of typical CD4+ Foxp3+ cells, other chapters provide detailed presentations of Treg subsets such as CD8+ Tregs and IL-10-producing Tr1 cells. The differences of various Treg subsets, as well as circulating and resident Treg cell populations, are next compared. Importantly, the next chapters provide the clinical correlation of Treg cells with autoimmune diseases, inflammatory diseases, metabolic diseases, cancer and organ transplantation and progress to chapters that highlight emerging innovative technology including nanoparticle-Treg cells and their translational values. In summary, the book will provide a valuable resource not only for graduate students and researchers in the fields of immunology, cell biology and translational medicine but also for all others interested in learning more about Treg cells and their application in human health and disease.

Regulatory T cells and Autoimmune Diseases addresses recent findings concerning the role of Tregs in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases as well as their therapeutic aspects. In particular, this book deals with the various Treg based mechanisms which can lead to autoimmune diseases and covers the different aspects of linking Tregs with autoimmune mechanisms involved in disease development by discussing animal models and human studies. The book specifically focuses on the Treg based therapeutics and their targets to manage all known autoimmune rheumatic, central nervous system, bowel, liver, thyroid, kidney, myopathic, skin, blood & blood vessel, and eye diseases and aims to provide a must-have reference for designing therapeutic strategies to treat these autoimmune diseases. Additionally, the book covers the vaccines induced effects on functioning of Tregs and development of CAR Tregs therapy for these autoimmune diseases and concludes with current challenges and future prospects of Treg-based therapeutics. It is carefully designed to meet the requirements of both basic and advanced researchers in the area and give new dimensions and insight into the regulatory T cells’ role in autoimmune disease pathogenesis and therapeutic aspects. Brings the reader up-to-date on the mechanisms of regulatory T cells (Tregs) in pathogenesis and therapeutics of all autoimmune diseases known to date Provides explicit color illustrations and comprehensible tables for explaining the mechanistic aspects and emerging information in the field Includes human clinical trials and animal model studies for Tregs in diverse autoimmune diseases for the mitigation of the symptoms of autoimmune diseases Offers scientifically applicable and relevant content for readers of various disciplines, including biomedical sciences, medical microbiology/biotechnology, immunology, and medicine

“About 25 years ago, Mosmann & Coffman introduced the TH1 / TH2 paradigm of T helper cell differentiation which helped explain many aspects of adaptive immunity from eliminating intracellular versus extracellular pathogens to induction of different types of tissue inflammation. However, TH1 / TH2 paradigm could not adequately explain development of certain inflammatory responses which provided impetus for the discovery of a new subset of T cells called TH17 cells. After the discovery of differentiation and transcription factors for TH17 cells, it was clear that TH17 cells represent an independent subset of T cells with specific functions in eliminating certain extracellular pathogens, presumably not adequately handled by TH1 or TH2 cells. The major role of TH17 cells has been described in inducing auto-immune tissue inflammation. The discovery of TH17 cells has expanded the TH1 / TH2 paradigm, and the integration of TH17 cells with TH1 and TH2 effector T cells is beginning to explain the underlying mechanisms of tissue inflammation in a number of infections and auto-immune disease settings.” - From Chapter One by Vijay K. Kuchroo, Harvard University, USA “The recently identified Interleukin 17 (IL-17) cytokine family contributes to immunity to infectious diseases and chronic inflammatory diseases. Further studies on the regulation and function of this important cytokine family may provide better understanding on the roles of the IL-17 family in immune-mediated diseases; such knowledge may lead to the development of immunotherapeutic strategies for treatment of several inflammatory diseases.” - From Chapter Two by Chen Dong, University of Texas and MD Anderson Cancer Center, USA

Co Signal Molecules In T Cell Activation written by Miyuki Azuma and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-11-22 with Medical categories.

This book equips young immunologists and health professionals with a clear understanding of the fundamental concepts and roles of co-signal molecules and in addition presents the latest information on co-stimulation. The first part of the book is devoted to co-signal molecules and the regulation of T cells. Following an initial overview, subsequent chapters examine each co-signal molecule in turn and discuss the mechanisms by which co-signal molecules regulate the different types of T cell. The second part covers various clinical applications, including in autoimmune disease, neurological disorders, transplantation, graft-versus-host disease, and cancer immunotherapy. To date, co-stimulation blockade and co-inhibition blockade have shown beneficial effects and many additional clinical trials targeting co-signal molecules are ongoing. The mechanisms underlying these successful treatments are explained and the future therapeutic potential in the aforementioned diseases is evaluated. Co-signal Molecules in T Cell Activation will be a valuable reference guide to co-stimulation for basic and clinical researchers in the fields of both immunology and pharmaceutical science.
