In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird ein Modell der kunsttherapeutischen Behandlungsmöglichkeit älterer und alter Menschen auf der Basis semiotisch-ästhetischer Ereknntnistheorie fundiert. Dabei wird von einer lebenslangen Entwicklungsmöglichkeit ausgegangen. Dies führt zu einer differenzierten Definition von 'Rehabilitation', die sich von der im Bereich medizinisch-funktionaler Behandlung abgrenzt. Durch das Einbeziehen neuropsychologischer und linguistisch-strukturalistischer Untersuchungen zur Informationsrepräsentation können bisher diskutierte Forschungsansätze im Bereich der Kunsttherapie grundlegend erweitert werden. Auf dieser Basis kann die Verbindung von Repräsentationstheorien zum Kreativen Prozess als Zeichengenerierungsprozess theoretisch nachgewiesen werden.
