Worship is a dynamic, living encounter that should never be static. In the Church of England, although Common Worship provides texts for every season and occasion, the church constantly needs to refresh its worship, just as it reshapes its presence in local communities. In this comprehensive volume, a wide range of experienced liturgists, musicians and pastoral practitioners consider the principles that will determine the character and quality, as well as the content, of our worship in the future. It explores how new forms can meet new needs while remaining faithful to the church’s essential understanding of worship. Over twenty chapters consider how emerging forms of worship can be: - Relational, accessible and inclusive - Rooted in Scripture, the Creeds, and Spirit-filled - Sacramental, symbolic and multi-sensory - Transformative, pastoral and prophetic The contributors are all members of the Group for the Renewal of Worship, a broadly evangelical group within the Church of England and including senior clergy, musicians, theological college tutors in liturgy and former members of the Liturgical Commission.

Are you seeking to renew your communal worship experience in ways that will bring new life and vitality to your community of faith? This Time with Feeling offers an accessible, informative balance of rationale, anecdotes, examples, and invitational prompts to reignite the fire of worship as a personal, emotional experience of the Divine. Worshipers are guided to pay attention to the world around them, as well as the ways that story, music, language, symbols, and ritual in worship may unleash God-encounters that shape belief and practice. Creating worship experiences that engage participants on an emotional level and defining those experiences in the context of the Christian story holds the potential for powerful individual and communal transformation. With a healthy balance of practical and theological reflection, as well as exercises that invite reader engagement, this book will stimulate meaningful personal reflection, dynamic group conversations, inspired participation in worship planning and leadership, and worship experiences that will enliven and grow congregations.

Those who make their home in God, Who wrap themselves in the blanket of God, Can cling to a deeper peace. The Faithful One provides warmth within, Sanctuary, from the fears that chill. FROM PSALM 91 A wellspring of prayer and praise for thousands of years, the Psalms give voice to every human emotion from intense joy to anger and disorientating sorrow. They are eternal soul songs that lift our hearts and address the same concerns and questions we face today, with fearlessness and acceptance. In this book, Lezley J. Stewart reimagines key Psalms in strikingly beautiful contemporary language and incorporates them into ready to use liturgies that focus on central themes in the Psalms: refuge, lament, refreshment and more. Let Everyone Find Their Voice offers a wealth of exquisitely crafted and sensitive worship resources that will enrich personal prayer and public worship, and will readily lend itself to multiple pastoral contexts.

It’s been said that prayer is the vocabulary of faith. This book offers a wealth of resources from forgotten places to help us create a new vocabulary for worship and prayer, one that is located amidst the poor and the major issues of violence and destruction around the world today. It is a collection of prayers, songs, rituals, rites of healing, Eucharistic and baptismal prayers, meditations and art from four continents: Asia-Pacific Islands, Africa, Americas, and Europe. Liturgies from Below is the culmination of a project organized by the Council for World Mission (CWM) during 2018-2019. Approximately 100 people from four continents worked with CWM, collaborating to create indigenous prayers and liturgies expressing their own contexts, for sharing with their communities and the rest of the world. The project was called “Re-Imagining Worship as Acts of Defiance and Alternatives in the Context of Empire”. The author and others spent weeks living in each of four communities for several weeks/months, getting to know the people, and then facilitating the people’s own creation of prayers and liturgies. The author, other scholars, pastors, artists, activists and students all came from radically different ethnicities, races, sexualities, churches and Christian theologies. The people in each location were poor, living in very challenging communities, living in oppressive and seemingly hopeless situations. After some time, they wrote prayers and stories of their experience trying to live the Christian faith in utterly abandoned places. What we have here is an immensely rich and varied collection of liturgical sources from various communities dealing with issues of violence, immigration/refugees, drugs, land grabbing, war on the poor, attack on women, militarization, climate change, and so on.

We are pleased to annouce that God’s Companions by Samuel Wells has been shortlisted for the 2007 Michael Ramsey Prize for theological writing. www.michaelramseyprize.org.uk Grounded in Samuel Wells’ experience of ordinary lives in poorer neighborhoods, this book presents a striking and imaginative approach to Christian ethics. It argues that Christian ethics is founded on God, on the practices of human community, and on worship, and that ethics is fundamentally a reflection of God's abundance. Wells synthesizes dogmatic, liturgical, ethical, scriptural, and pastoral approaches to theology in order to make a bold claim for the centrality of the local church in theological reflection. He considers the abundance of gifts God gives through the practices of the Church, particularly the Eucharist. His central thesis, which governs his argument throughout, is that God gives his people everything they need to worship him, be his friends, and eat with him. Wells engages with serious scholarly material, yet sets out the issues lucidly for a student audience.

The traditional landscape of Anglican parish ministry is irrevocably changing. Priests have traditionally understood themselves as maintaining centres of prayer and spiritual care for people in a particular place, but urgent pressures on parish ministry are changing this. For God's Sake seeks to discern what priests are called to do in the new shape the church is taking. It looks for signs of God’s kingdom in today’s signs of the times, and ways of being both faithful and creative in the face of an uncertain future. A range of contributors explore first-hand the contradictions and paradoxes of a priest’s daily life, reflecting on how the wisdom of the past and the new initiatives of evangelization are shaping their vocation to prayer, study and speaking the good news of Jesus Christ.
