Religion And Conflict In Modern South Asia written by William Gould and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-12-05 with History categories.

This is one of the first single-author comparisons of different South Asian states around the theme of religious conflict. Based on new research and syntheses of the literature on 'communalism', it argues that religious conflict in this region in the modern period was never simply based on sectarian or theological differences or the clash of civilizations. Instead, the book proposes that the connection between religious radicalism and everyday violence relates to the actual (and perceived) weaknesses of political and state structures. For some, religious and ethnic mobilisation has provided a means of protest, where representative institutions failed. For others, it became a method of dealing with an uncertain political and economic future. For many it has no concrete or deliberate function, but has effectively upheld social stability, paternalism and local power, in the face of globalisation and the growing aspirations of the region's most underprivileged citizens.

On The Significance Of Religion In Conflict And Conflict Resolution written by Christine Schliesser and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-07-01 with Religion categories.

In this ground-breaking volume, the authors analyze the role of religion in conflict and conflict resolution. They do so from the perspectives of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, while bringing different disciplines into play, including peace and conflict studies, religious studies, theology, and ethics. With much of current academic, political, and public attention focusing on the conflictive dimensions of religion, this book also explores the constructive resources of religion for conflict resolution and reconciliation. Analyzing the specific contributions of religious actors in this field, their potentials and possible problems connected with them, this book sheds light on the concrete contours of the oftentimes vague “religious factor” in processes of social change. Case studies in current and former settings of violent conflict such as Israel, post-genocide Rwanda, and Pakistan provide “real-life” contexts for discussion. Combining cutting-edge research with case studies and concrete implications for academics, policy makers, and practitioners, this concise and easily accessible volume helps to build bridges between these oftentimes separated spheres of engagement. This book recognizes the problem areas and concerns of each institution or social force. We must recognize, acknowledge, support and encourage the primary function of each institution and will recognize and establish a working relationship with the leaders of each institution and will come to an agreement with them on institutional goals and objectives. The presence of social institutions from ancient times and the universal presence of most of the main types of them in all known societies point to the fact that societies cannot exist without them. This obvious indispensability indicates fundamental "causes" or impelling reasons for their existence. They must perform functions which are essential to the life of societies. They must be characteristic of human nature as these express themselves in social contacts and situations among associated human behavior which are called social institutions. As a newly formed corporation UNOCOM: Unity of the Community will be engaged in educational activities of the institutions of society.
