New Perspectives On Religious And Spiritual Education written by Theo van der Zee and has been published by Waxmann Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with Philosophy categories.

Society is a complex phenomenon, characterized by constant change, often entailing conflict. This is seen in our own times where philosophies and movements of individualism, pluralism and globalization intersect and often collide. Still, even in this fast-moving and highly materialist world, religion and spirituality remain crucial aspects of human and social living, and therefore must be among the many focusses of the modern school. Teachers of Religious and Spiritual Education (RSE) are therefore expected to support students’ religious and spiritual understanding as well as their overall development. How can they best meet this challenge? This book is comprised of various interdisciplinary research findings drawn from international scholarship. The findings are of a different order from each other but all have in common an element of surprise, sufficient to impel reflection and re-thinking of many of the assumptions that normally underpin RSE. The book therefore constitutes a contribution to ongoing understanding of the role played by religious and spiritual education and of the proper interface between RSE and the modern school, contemporary curricula and the teacher of today. Researching Religious Education Classroom Processes And Outcomes written by Friedrich Schweitzer and has been published by Waxmann Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Philosophy categories.

The question of how research on structures and outcomes in Religious Education can be carried out successfully is of current interest in many countries. Next to the more traditional historical, analytical and, more recently, international comparative approaches, empirical research in religious education has been able to establish itself as a major approach to this field. Moreover, the contemporary discussion about comparative evaluation in schools has raised a number of questions which also refer to Religious Education. What competences can pupils acquire in this subject? Does Religious Education really support the acquisition and development of the competences aspired? Are there differences in this respect between different forms of Religious Education or between different approaches to teaching? With contributions from eight European countries, the volume brings together approaches and research experiences that try to follow this lead by offering new and empirically based perspectives for the future improvement of teaching and learning in this school subject. Whoever is interested in improving the practice of Religious Education then, will not be able to bypass the question of researching processes and outcomes - an insight which also refers to a small but growing number of studies in this field which can be identified in several countries.

Leo Baeck (1873–1956) was a famous Jewish thinker and the leader of German Jewry during the Holocaust. This book offers the first interpretation of his religious thought as political, showing how Baeck, along with German-Jewish thought more broadly, cannot be properly understood without the imperial context.

International Knowledge Transfer In Religious Education written by Friedrich Schweitzer and has been published by Waxmann Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-12-16 with Education categories.

This book is about international knowledge transfer in religious education as an academic discipline; at the same time, though, it is related to the school subject of RE. Its aim is to strengthen the awareness of the need for international cooperation in the field of religious education in general and especially for clarifying the role of knowledge in this kind of cooperation. The contributions discuss a number of issues, among others related to the validity and transferability of knowledge in religious education. Thus, the book takes up a topic which so far has remained implicit and therefore also untreated. This approach implies a whole spectrum of new methodological and epistemological problems. Some crucial questions that are discussed in the chapters from different national contexts are: – How can the national and the international context be productively connected to each other? – Which concept or understanding of ›international‹ should be used when it comes to the transfer of knowledge? – What exactly is meant by ›knowledge‹ in religious education? – What does ›transfer‹ mean in this context? The scope of the book is an invitation to other colleagues to take part in and to continue the discussion.

Field Trips To The Church written by Ulrich Riegel and has been published by Waxmann Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Education categories.

Visiting the local church is said to be a powerful case of participa tory learning. Inside the church the students have an actual, multi-sensory encounter with Christian practice. Moreover, leaving the classroom to visit some artifact nearby is attractive and is said to raise the situational interest of the students. An empirical study on the effects of such field trips, however, is still missing. This volume addresses this research gap in religious education. It provides insight into the theoretical background, the empirical design and the results of a project about field trips to the local church in compulsory Catholic religious education in German primary schools. It draws a comprehensive picture of such effects by identifying the benefits of scholastic field trips as well as the obstacles of this didactic set-up. The volume closes with a description of didactic principles and methods which help to improve scholastic field trips to the local church. Ulrich Riegel ist Professor für Religionspädagogik am Seminar für Katholische Theologie der Universität Siegen.

Rudolf Otto And The Foundation Of The History Of Religions written by Yoshitsugu Sawai and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-02-10 with Religion categories.

This book provides an up-to-date treatment of Rudolf Otto and his work, placing him in the context of comparative religion, theology, and the philosophy of religion. Yoshitsugu Sawai shows how Otto has “three faces”: the Lutheran Theologian, the Philosopher of Religion, and the Comparative Religionist. The book also shows how, of these, Otto saw himself primarily as a Lutheran Theologian, and provides an account of Otto's engagement with India and the centrality that Hindu theology had on his thinking. In Otto's theory of religion, his well-known concepts including “wholly other” and “numinous” constitute a multiple structure of meaning. For example, his concept of the “wholly other” (das ganz Andere) no doubt has the meaning of “God” in his Christian theological studies. At the same time, however, from the perspective of comparative religion or the phenomenology of religion, this same term semantically implies the “ultimate reality” of other religious traditions; “Brahman” and “God” (Isvara) in Hindu religious tradition as well as “God” in Christianity.
