English summary: Modern Christian social welfare work thrives on religious motivation and intuitions yet operates within a quite secular practice sector. The need for a theological understanding of diaconia which does not ignore the advantages of secular professionalism or smother welfare's burning religious incentive is thus called for. This book focuses on recognition and its relation to religion and theology, in both systematic and historical dimensions. While existing research literature on recognition and contemporary recognition theory has been gradually growing since the early 1990s, certain gaps remain in the field covered so far. One of these is the multifaceted interaction between the phenomena of recognition and religion.
