Public Theology Perspectives On Religion And Education written by Manfred L. Pirner and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-01-23 with Education categories.

In order to draw out the relationship between publicly-oriented Christianity and education, this book demonstrates that education is an important method and prerequisite of public theology, as well as an urgent object of public theology research’s attention. Featuring work from diverse academic disciplines—including religion education, theology, philosophy, and religious studies—this edited collection also contends with the educational challenges that come with the decline of religion on the one hand and its transformation and regained public relevance on the other. Taken together, the contributions to this volume provide a comprehensive argument for why education deserves systematic attention in the context of public theology discourse, and vice versa.

Religious education is always a local or regional practice. This is evident in the studies in the present volume on religion and education. The production and the transfer of knowledge in this field are particular and take place in certain historical contexts, so that both can be understood as historical processes. With regard to these theoretical assumptions, the authors of the present volume deliver case studies concerning religious education research in Germany, Ireland, Sweden, Argentina, as well as other countries. Several questions from these contributions might be relevant for further studies: Is religion being underrated in educational research? Is education, on the other hand, being underrated in religious studies? Do these questions depend on national traditions in educational as well as religious research? Are there transnational exchanges between countries through networks, guilds and media? And finally, what might be the additional benefits of such research compared to international comparative studies?

[Religion and Education – Interdisciplinary. Commemorative Publication for Michael Wermke on the Occasion of his 60th Birthday] The dynamic interaction between religion and education is the central subject of religious education. At the same time, it is also of significance in other academic disciplines. This is the case, for example, when New Testament sciences see Jesus as a teacher or medical psychology sees religious education as a resource or school education addresses a school culture that is sensitive to religion. Against this background, this volume presents contributions from educational science and law, theology and sociology of religions addressing the connection between religion and education. Thus, it wants to highlight the necessary interdisciplinarity in dealing with the topic "religion and education", providing therewith points of reference for further discussions. The volume honours Michael Wermke on the occasion of his 60th birthday who has time and again initiated and strengthened fruitful interdisciplinary cooperation between disciplines concerned with the connection between religion and education.

This timely book offers a critically important contribution to debates around the meeting place of religious and secular worldviews in education. Edited by five leading figures in the field, and drawing on expert international scholarship and research, the book provides cutting-edge analysis that bridges the religious and secular in global educational contexts. Considering the role of the United Nations, UNESCO, OECD and PISA in varied international contexts, the book draws on critical analysis of primary empirical research and secondary critique to offer a coherent blend of theoretically complex yet practical analysis of policy implementation. Throughout this accessible and logically structured volume, the authors assert that the meeting place of religious and secular worldviews is one of the most important and pressing issues for religion in education. As a field-defining work of research into education, religion and worldviews, the book will be essential reading for scholars, researchers and postgraduate students in the fields of religious education, religious studies, philosophy of education and international education.

Forming Humanity written by Jennifer A. Herdt and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-08-22 with Religion categories.

Kant’s proclamation of humankind’s emergence from “self-incurred immaturity” left his contemporaries with a puzzle: What models should we use to sculpt ourselves if we no longer look to divine grace or received authorities? Deftly uncovering the roots of this question in Rhineland mysticism, Pietist introspection, and the rise of the bildungsroman, Jennifer A. Herdt reveals bildung, or ethical formation, as the key to post-Kantian thought. This was no simple process of secularization, in which human beings took responsibility for something they had earlier left in the hands of God. Rather, theorists of bildung, from Herder through Goethe to Hegel, championed human agency in self-determination while working out the social and political implications of our creation in the image of God. While bildung was invoked to justify racism and colonialism by stigmatizing those deemed resistant to self-cultivation, it also nourished ideals of dialogical encounter and mutual recognition. Herdt reveals how the project of forming humanity lives on in our ongoing efforts to grapple with this complicated legacy.
