For Contents and Introduction click . In this volume five cardinals of the Church, and four other scholars, respond to the call issued by Walter Cardinal Kasper for the Church to harmonize "fidelity and mercy in its pastoral practice with civilly remarried, divorced people". The contributors are Walter Cardinal Brandmüller; Raymond Cardinal Burke; Carlo Cardinal Caffarra; Velasio Cardinal De Paolis, C.S.; Robert Dodaro, O.S.A.; Paul Mankowski, S.J.; Gerhard Cardinal Müller; John M. Rist; and Archbishop Cyril Vasil', S.J. Cardinal Kasper appeals to early Church practice in order to support his view. The contributors bring their wealth of knowledge and expertise to bear upon this question, concluding that the Bible and the Church Fathers do not support the kind of "toleration" of civil marriages following divorce advocated by Cardinal Kasper. They also examine the Eastern Orthodox practice of oikonomia (understood as "mercy" implying "toleration") in cases of remarriage after divorce and in the context of the vexed question of Eucharistic Communion. The book traces the long history of Catholic resistance to this practice, revealing the serious theological and pastoral difficulties it poses in past and current Orthodox Church practice. As the authors demonstrate, traditional Catholic doctrine, based on the teaching of Jesus himself, and current pastoral practice are not at odds with genuine mercy and compassion. The authentic "gospel of mercy" is available through a closer examination of the Church's teachings. "Because it is the task of the apostolic ministry to ensure that the Church remains in the truth of Christ and to lead her ever more deeply into that truth, pastors must promote the sense of faith in all the faithful, examine and authoritatively judge the genuineness of its expressions and educate the faithful in an ever more mature evangelical discernment." - St. John Paul II, Familiaris Consortio

In this volume five Cardinals of the Church, and four other scholars, respond to the call issued by Cardinal Walter Kasper for the Church to harmonize "fidelity and mercy in its pastoral practice with civilly remarried, divorced people". Beginning with a concise introduction, the first part of the book is dedicated to the primary biblical texts pertaining to divorce and remarriage, and the second part is an examination of the teaching and practice prevalent in the early Church. In neither of these cases, biblical or patristic, do these scholars find support for the kind of "toleration" of civil marriages following divorce advocated by Cardinal Kasper. This book also examines the Eastern Orthodox practice of oikonomia (understood as "mercy" implying "toleration") in cases of remarriage after divorce and in the context of the vexed question of Eucharistic communion. It traces the centuries long history of Catholic resistance to this convention, revealing serious theological and canonical difficulties inherent in past and current Orthodox Church practice. Thus, in the second part of the book, the authors argue in favor of retaining the theological and canonical rationale for the intrinsic connection between traditional Catholic doctrine and sacramental discipline concerning marriage and communion. The various studies in this book lead to the conclusion that the Church's longstanding fidelity to the truth of marriage constitutes the irrevocable foundation of its merciful and loving response to the individual who is civilly divorced and remarried. The book therefore challenges the premise that traditional Catholic doctrine and contemporary pastoral practice are in contradiction.

What does it mean to live the Christian life with conviction? Richard Lischer insists that Christians have a stake in the political and social conflicts that are dividing our culture. In whatever circumstance, Christians are obligated to tell the truth about what it means to be a follower of Jesus. In Just Tell the Truth, Lischer explores seasons of suffering, hope, and triumph in the light of the gospel. Drawing upon Scripture and the lives of both well-known and anonymous Christians, he helps his readers imagine what truthful living looks like. While remaining biblically and theologically rooted, the sermons eloquently engage the present moment, showing how Christian conviction has a place in the controversial realms of politics, racial justice, and the COVID-19 crisis. The nourishing meditations in Just Tell the Truth align the rhythm of the gospel with the curvature of human experience, empowering Christians to find the heart of God in what is too often a heartless world.

In a day and time that anything goes, a time of subjective morality, and a society that thrives living in the gray area, there seems to be a loss of vision of what is right and wrong, what is truth, and what is deception, and we have an entire society willing to compromise with anyone and anything other than the God of the Bible. Yet there has to be some absolutes, there can't be both truth and lies living together in some imaginary land called "The Gray Area." We must realize that there is truth, and it is the same truth that has prevailed throughout the ages, and His name is God, His Son is Jesus, and His Word, the Bible, is still truth, and when heaven and earth have passed away, His Word will still be standing. The power of truth is undeniable because once we know the truth, we can't be deceived by the false. The greatest realization of truth is that God is truth, therefore God truly desires us to have truth because when we have truth, we have Him. The understanding of truth only comes from those who seek truth, and those who seek God with all their hearts. The rewards of truth are freedom, the fruit of truth is unity, the judgment and work of truth is transformational to those that find it. Proverbs 23:23 tells us to "buy truth and sell not."

This book is about Jesus, about the Apostle Paul, and about the book of Revelation. I always thought that to be faithful disciple of Jesus I had to believe that after Jesus Christ we did not have to wait for any other man, nor for any other name, in order to reach salvation; but I never applied this belief to Paul of Tarsus, commonly known as the Apostle Saint Paul. Despite my Catholic Education, several times, readings of passages of the Epistles of Paul had left me with serious doubts about them, especially those involving women, civil authority and submission to ecclesiastic authorities, among others, but the sound trust that I have been taught to have in the Bible, and that I still maintain, allowed me to live with those doubts until I studied the epistles. When I did it, the love for the truth and the faithfulness to Jesus Christ, that I also have been taught to have, left me with no other option but to admit that the Epistles of Paul have many errors, vices and even teachings directly opposed to Christ's teachings; and led me to realize that Paul was a false prophet responsible for the worst errors, and vices, that the Catholic Church and the Christian Church in general have committed and fallen into. Moreover, I realized that the defeat of the worst errors and vices that threaten our present and our future depends on our faithfulness to Jesus and to the word of Jesus, which we find in the Gospels, and on the recognition of the Apostle Paul as a false prophet. In addition, when I studied the book of Revelation, I found out that the Apostle Paul is clearly pointed out as the Second Beast of the book of Revelation. Furthermore, with this piece of the Puzzle I interpreted Chapter by Chapter the book, which reveals very important things concerning the plan of God regarding the Christian Church, the recognition of Paul as a false prophet, and about the times of the Second Coming of Jesus. If you want to better understand our past, our present and our near future, you should read this book. If you are a Christian who is in love with the Gospels, who loves Christ, who wants to love him even more, and who believes that nothing is more important than to be faithful to Jesus, this book is for you.

Beginning with a clear presentation of prophecy interpretation and dispensationalism, the authors examine specific end times events represented in Left Behind and offer historical and biblical support for each event. Story Behind the Book With the incredible success of this series, we believe that it would be beneficial to the body of Christ for someone to publish a book that gives solid, thoughtful, biblical answers to the critics of the Left Behind theology. With the questions that are being raised and will continue to be raised, many may begin to wonder if the Left Behind theology is really biblical. Some of the impact of the series could be undermined. This book would set forth substantive biblical points in favor of the various end times events presented in the series.

Have you been wondering as a Christian, or non-Christian, what many think -- and expect -- will happen in the "last days" or "end times" with all the talk and focus in the headlines -- and some churches -- about our future? And with all the events taking place in the Middle East, especially Israel? And Iran? Are you confused because of various end-time scenarios and conflicting opinions promoted through popular books on prophecy, the Left Behind series, televangelists, preachers, and others speaking of a great tribulation, rapture, Armageddon, Apocalypse, the destruction of the earth, a new heaven and earth, a second coming, and a millennium? There has been an overload of teaching and information about these things over the last century -- however sincere and cloaked in good intentions -- yet with long-held and deep-seated traditions and doctrines, all borne of a lack of accurate knowledge (particularly the Hebrew and Greek) and information based on compelling evidence. Would you like to know what the Bible actually says about all these issues? For God's Word itself -- "Let Scripture Interpret Scripture" -- and the Holy Spirit are the only necessary interpreters. The Last Days Are Left Behind will challenge your thinking, help to erase the confusion, and provide clarity regarding the present-day purpose of God. Author James Ellis demonstrates end-time truth based logically on solid evidence after a linguistically accurate, biblically consistent, and intellectually honest examination of the Bible's prophetic passages and verses, the original languages -- Hebrew and Greek, the social, cultural, and historical context of Scripture, and the relevance of the audience spoken or written to in God's Word.
