Poetry. In her debut poetry collection, Rachel Kaufman enters the archive's unconscious to reveal the melodies hidden within the language of the past. MANY TO REMEMBER unravels the histories of New Mexican crypto-Jews and the Mexican Inquisition alongside the poet's own family histories. Kaufman's poems follow "fleshed like fables" and "the past's near ending" to arrive at an "alphabet, gardened, growing," creased and longing to translate the past for the present.

"I am not going to apologize for speaking the name of Jesus . . . If I have to sacrifice everything . . . I will." ûRachel Scott The Columbine tragedy in April 1999 pierced the heart of our country. We later learned that the teenage killers specifically targeted Rachel Scott and mocked her Christian faith on their chilling, homemade videotapes. Rachel Scott died for her faith. Now her parents talk about Rachel's life and how they have found meaning in their daughter's martyrdom in the aftermath of the school shooting. Rachel's Tears comes from a heartfelt need to celebrate this young girl's life, to work through the grief and the questions of a nation, and to comfort those who have been touched by violence in our schools today. Using excerpts and drawings from Rachel's own journals, her parents offer a spiritual perspective on the Columbine tragedy and provide a vision of hope for preventing youth violence across the nation. Meets national education standards.

God Remembered Rachel" was subsequently one of the many titles I had to choose for my poetry book. This title stood out the most due to it's significance to me. A fellow colleague in the gospel preached a sermon with the same title a while back, and I never forgot it. The biblical account of Rachel, though painful at times to read about, ultimately had a wonderful ending. I loved the fact that Rachel learned through trial and error to trust in a God, who promises that you will reap if you faint not. At the end of this story God opens her womb, so she can bare Jacob two sons. They are the evidence that though she sowed in tears she reap in joy. This book should shed light on our dark situations, give hope when you feel you don't have any, as well as provide joy and laughter. I hope that we realize that if God remembered Rachel, he will remember us too!

Sergei, now in Moscow, is becoming more involved in the fight for democracy and freedom of speech. Rachel Carson written by Linda Lear and has been published by HMH this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-04-01 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

The authoritative biography of the marine biologist and nature writer whose book Silent Spring inspired the global environmentalist movement. In a career that spanned from civil service to unlikely literary celebrity, Rachel Carson became one of the world’s seminal leaders in conservation. The 1962 publication of her book Silent Spring was a watershed event that led to the banning of DDT and launched the modern environmental movement. Growing up in poverty on a tiny Allegheny River farm, Carson attended the Pennsylvania College for Women on a scholarship. There, she studied science and writing before taking a job with the newly emerging Fish and Wildlife Service. In this definitive biography, Linda Lear traces the evolution of Carson’s private, professional, and public lives, from the origins of her dedication to natural science to her invaluable service as a brilliant, if reluctant, reformer. Drawing on unprecedented access to sources and interviews, Lear masterfully explores the roots of Carson’s powerful connection to the natural world, crafting a “fine portrait of the environmentalist as a human being” (Smithsonian). “Impressively researched and eminently readable . . . Compelling, not just for Carson devotees but for anyone concerned about the environment.” —People “[A] combination of meticulous scholarship and thoughtful, often poignant, writing.” —Science “A sweeping, analytic, first-class biography of Rachel Carson.” —Kirkus Reviews
