The J. L. Hudson Company redefined the way Detroiters shopped and enjoyed leisure time. Many Detroiters share memories of times spent shopping and enjoying spectacular events sponsored by Hudson's. A solid and lofty icon built by businesspeople who believed in their passion, Hudson's defined Detroit's downtown, creating trends and traditions in consumer culture that still resonate with us today. Now and in the future, as Hudson's boxes, shopping bags, and artifacts are discovered in closets, attics, basements, and flea markets, many will remember that it was once as solid a civic fixture as the City-County Building or the Detroit Public Library.

The history of Albany, New York, spans more than four hundred years and has left an indelible mark on the story of America. However, the city's legacy is also peppered with charming tales about nostalgic diner devotion, a "giant" hoax, and the origins of the Yankee Doodle ditty. In this collection, local author and columnist Don Rittner delights with the best stories from his column "Heritage on the Hudson." From the city's earliest days as Mohican and Iroquois territory to the region's heyday as an important crossroads for trading and river transportation to a French toast debacle, Rittner offers a delightful perspective of the history and culture of this capital city.

"IF YOU KNOW THE SONG, THAN YOU KNOW HOW THE WIND BLOWS.."....... "ALONG THE HUDSON RIVER.......It was a slowing pace, a scene of yesterdays. A place where something was complete different from the Big Apple, New York City. It was a quiet scene, almost like living in another world. It was a sentimental confusion for Carolyn, a deaf child in her early teens. She was raised in the City of New York, "Harlem," now she comes to a town of yesterday, "Hudson, New York. An upstate city, up above the mountains, near Catskill, New York. Where stories of the "Headless Horseman, and "Rip Van Winkle" were legends, and where celebrities spend their quiet vacations or livelihood. To her, at the age of fourteen, Hudson was a mysterious place, as if the people there has changed. They were different from the people in New York City, It seems as if this town was a different world. Although the "City" was her home, where she was born and raised, she was confused, and she was afraid. "How would she adapt to a place that was so new to her?" Especially, since's she is deaf. Her friends were in New York, the ones whom she had grewed up with, and how can she make friends in this town called "Hudson," would they eventually accept her, as being deaf? She felt that she didn't have to prove anything to anyone. Although, while living in New York, her friends accepted her as she was, hearing aide and all. But will they accept her in this town called, "Hudson"? Carolyn wore a hearing aide and she spoke as well as she can read a person lips to know what they were saying, but she felt alone. Little did she know that Hudson was a town on its own and that it would have a greater affect on her as she lives the rest of her teenager years in a town called" Hudson, New York."

We remember in social contexts. We reminisce about the past together, collaborate to remember shared experiences, and, even when we are alone, we remember in the context of our communities and cultures. Taking an interdisciplinary approach throughout, this text comprehensively covers collaborative remembering across the fields of developmental psychology, cognitive psychology, social psychology, discourse processing, philosophy, neuropsychology, design, and media studies. It highlights points of overlap and contrast across the many disciplinary perspectives and, with its sections on 'Approaches of Collaborative Remembering' and 'Applications of Collaborative Remembering', also connects basic and applied research. Written with late-stage undergraduates and early-stage graduates in mind, the book is also a valuable tool for memory specialists and academics in the fields of psychology, cognitive science and philosophy who are interested in collaborative memory research.
