Remembering Yesterday is a collection of inspirational short stories with a Christian flavor. Stories of the past, present, and future fill these pages; stories that are filled with love, hope, compassion, and forgiveness. These are stories that address the heart and soul of Christianity; the most important commandment of all---love God, and love people. You can find yourself or someone you know in the characters of these stories, because we are all different in so many ways, but we are all alike in one---at one time, or another, we all need hope.

America, still today, for many people throughout the world remains an attraction; instead, for many others, they see America as a beacon of hope from political and religious oppressions to the needs to overcome hunger from their countries poor economic conditions. Nevertheless, "Remembering Yesterday," talks about a timid little immigrant boy named Gregorio; his wonderful protective mother; his working, dedicated, and honest father, who was forced to immigrate to six different countries before coming to America, looking for work so his family could survive; and his two siblings: Andrea, the daring one; and Matteo, the thick headed one. The book opens up with the main character Gregorio Di Nardo as an adult teaching English as a Second Language at a local Community College, to immigrant adult students. the author then moves to narrate more about the main character as a little boy growing up in his little village. The story continues with some surprising and unexpected information: Gregorio and his family would be leaving their little town for America. The news upsets the little boy for abandoning his present existence, his friends, the piazza, and his small house; but his mother and siblings however, were happy as they could be to leave the poor conditions behind and embrace new ones knowing they were starting from nothing. The narration picks up with a long dangerous journey to America: first on a train, then on transatlantic boat named "Vulcania", and finally growing up to adulthood in the city of Newark with no language, no friends, no one to cling to except his parents and two siblings. The family settles in the city of Newark, where they lived and experienced Newark reality at its best and safest period; as well as its downfall. It is here where they first experienced one of the many gloomy embarrassments, despondent, sour moments of racism and hardships. The desperate souls came with nothing except their clothes, a strong will to work and produce; and to overcome the hunger they left behind due to poor economic conditions they were subjected to.

In Remembering Genocide an international group of scholars draw on current research from a range of disciplines to explore how communities throughout the world remember genocide. Whether coming to terms with atrocities committed in Namibia and Rwanda, Australia, Canada, the Punjab, Armenia, Cambodia and during the Holocaust, those seeking to remember genocide are confronted with numerous challenges. Survivors grapple with the possibility, or even the desirability, of recalling painful memories. Societies where genocide has been perpetrated find it difficult to engage with an uncomfortable historical legacy. Still, to forget genocide, as this volume edited by Nigel Eltringham and Pam Maclean shows, is not an option. To do so reinforces the vulnerability of groups whose very existence remains in jeopardy and denies them the possibility of bringing perpetrators to justice. Contributors discuss how genocide is represented in media including literature, memorial books, film and audiovisual testimony. Debates surrounding the role museums and monuments play in constructing and transmitting memory are highlighted. Finally, authors engage with controversies arising from attempts to mobilise and manipulate memory in the service of reconciliation, compensation and transitional justice.

Person Centred Counselling For People With Dementia written by Danuta Lipinska and has been published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-01-15 with Health & Fitness categories.

Although currently many people with dementia are not given the opportunity to receive professional counselling, this book explores the value of counselling for men and women living with this condition and how it enables them to make sense of their lives and their notions of themselves. The author explores the pervasive myth that all experiences of living with dementia are entirely negative and shows counsellors and carers how a person-centred counselling experience can have positive outcomes for those with dementia and the people who care for them. Based on the author's own experiences of counselling people with dementia, the book covers the fundamentals of the counselling process and precisely what a person-centred approach entails. The book then brings together several theories of counselling such as the role of the 'spiritual' in the counselling relationship; working with concepts of relational depth and configurations of Self; and the author's own theories of relating to a person's spiritual core. Accumulating findings from over 20 years of counselling experience in both the UK and the US, this book explores the importance of the Self and recognising each individual's worth and value. Dialogue from the author's counselling experiences is used to illustrate the person-centred counselling approach. Providing a comprehensive guide to person-centred counselling for people with dementia, this book gives an illuminating perspective on the subject and will be of value to counsellors, health and social care professionals, carers, people with dementia and their families.

Divided societies, tormented pasts, and unrepentant perpetrators. Why are some countries more intent on vanquishing uncomfortable pasts than others? How do public and often unsightly attempts at memorialisation both fail the victims and valorize their oppressors? This book offers fresh and original perspectives on dictatorship, fascism and victimization from the bloodiest decades in Europe’s, Australia’s and Central America’s colonial and modern history. Chapters include analyses of Francoist memorials in Spain, assessments of the El Mozote massacre in El Salvador, the forgetting of frontier colonial violence in Tasmania, Romania’s treatment of its Roma populations in the midst of Holocaust memorialisation in Bucharest’s urban development, and whether or not the Holocaust continues to serve as an instructional model or impossible aspiration for cross-cultural genocide memorialisation strategies. In an era of ongoing political, ethnic and religious conflict, and unrepentant insurgent activity around the world, this collection reminds readers that genocidal actions, wherever and whenever they occurred, must be held to account by more than rhetoric and concrete memory. This book was originally published as a special issue of the Journal of Genocide Research.

Remembering A Phenomenological Study Second Edition Edward S. Casey A pioneering investigation of the multiple ways of remembering and the difference that memory makes in our daily lives. A Choice Outstanding Academic Book "An excellent book that provides an in-depth phenomenological and philosophical study of memory." —Choice "... a stunning revelation of the pervasiveness of memory in our lives." —Contemporary Psychology "[Remembering] presents a study of remembering that is fondly attentive to its rich diversity, its intricacy of structure and detail, and its wide-ranging efficacy in our everyday, life-world experience.... genuinely pioneering, it ranges far beyond what established traditions in philosophy and psychology have generally taken the functions and especially the limits of memory to be." —The Humanistic Psychologist Edward S. Casey provides a thorough description of the varieties of human memory, including recognizing and reminding, reminiscing and commemorating, body memory and place memory. The preface to the new edition extends the scope of the original text to include issues of collective memory, forgetting, and traumatic memory, and aligns this book with Casey’s newest work on place and space.
