Remote Luxury: Top Resorts Down Under is the ultimate guide to getting away from it all in Australia and New Zealand. Over the past few decades Australia and its equally spectacular neighbour across the Tasman Sea have established a reputation as two of the most sought-after holiday destinations in the world. This reputation is a result of not only the extraordinarily beautiful and varied landscapes both countries boast but also the inspirational ways in which their architects and designers have used these unique settings to create innovative and memorable places to stay. This beautifully photographed publication takes you on a visual journey through the most remote of these idyllic getaways, from luxurious laidback lodges in the outback to sustainable eco resorts in rainforests and sleek retreats by the sea.

Tambora written by Derek Pugh and has been published by Derek Pugh this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-10-01 with Travel categories.

In the best tradition of Paul Theroux and J. Maarten Troost, comes Derek Pugh's torrid tale of Sumbawa, and his ascent of the iconic volcano Mt. Tambora, whose 1815 eruption did indeed change the world. Pugh's account of the eruption and its aftermath is masterfully done - clearly the product of much dogged research through archives, scientific journals, as well as conversations with Indonesians lasting long into the steamy night. Himself a long-time resident of the neighboring Indonesian island of Lombok, Pugh is a well-qualified tourist who also brings a wry and rollicking insider's account of local and ex-pat life along the volcanic chain of islands. The reader meets a wonderfully diverse cast of characters, from pre-schooler jockeys, to an ancient princess alone in her decaying Sultan's palace, to brainless Western surfer dudes and their chicks who have no clue about the history of the slacker's paradise they've stumbled upon. Pugh does a sterling job of filling that gap in Asian travel writing, as the many-layered dimensions of Sumbawan culture - their strict Islamism, great friendliness, and intermittent traumas, with the colossal Tambora looming across every page - unfold to the reader like layers of volcanic earth from a hidden Pompeii. Gillen D'Arcy Wood, author of Tambora: The Eruption that Changed the World (Princeton University Press, 2014)

Dig written by David Nichols and has been published by Verse Chorus Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-10-11 with Music categories.

David Nichols tells the story of Australian rock and pop music from 1960 to 1985 – formative years in which the nation cast off its colonial cultural shackles and took on the world. Generously illustrated and scrupulously researched, Dig combines scholarly accuracy with populist flair. Nichols is an unfailingly witty and engaging guide, surveying the fertile and varied landscape of Australian popular music in seven broad historical chapters, interspersed with shorter chapters on some of the more significant figures of each period. The result is a compelling portrait of a music scene that evolves in dynamic interaction with those in the United States and the UK, yet has always retained a strong sense of its own identity and continues to deliver new stars – and cult heroes – to a worldwide audience. Dig is a unique achievement. The few general histories to date have been highlight reels, heavy on illustration and short on detail. And while there have been many excellent books on individual artists, scenes and periods, and a couple of first-rate encylopedias, there’s never been a book that told the whole story of the irresistible growth and sweep of a national music culture. Until now . . .
