Remote Sensing from a New Perspective The idea for this book began many years ago, when I was asked to teach a course on remote sensing. Not long before that time, I had been part of the effort to develop the first database for planetary data with a common digital array format and interactive processing capabilities to correlate those data easily: the lunar consortium. All the available lunar remote sensing data were included, orbital and ground-based, ranging across the entire electromagnetic spectrum. I had used this powerful tool extensively, and, in that spirit, I was determined to create a course which covered the entire spectrum and a variety of targets. As I looked around for the equivalent of a textbook, which I was willing to pull together from several sources, I realized that available material was very heavily focused on the visual and near visual spectrum and on the Earth as a target. Even The Surveillant Science, edited by Edward Holz and published in 1973, which broke new ground in having diverse articles on most of the spectrum when it was created, focused entirely on the Earth. My personal favorite, the exceedingly well written book on remote sensing by Floyd Sabins first published in 1978, covered the visual, infrared, and microwave portions of the spectrum beautifully but focused on the Earth as well. Unhindered, I developed what I called ‘packets’ of material for each part of the spectrum.

Geophysical exploration methods are very expensive and invasive methods for surveys. Remote sensing methods are non-invasive and much cheaper for investigating the Earth’s surface. This book bridges this gap and aims to integrate exploration geophysics with remote sensing as a cost-effective method which is easy to implement for prospecting in different areas. It provides exploration geophysicists with the necessary information to use advanced remote sensing technology in the exploration of oil and gas, minerals, and groundwater. It describes the integration of remote sensing in each of the nine exploration methods based on over 11 case studies from different countries across the globe. Features: Describes the geophysical exploration methods that geophysicists frequently use, along with suitable remote sensing techniques Offers a well-structured one-stop guide for finding a suitable remote sensing technique for a specific geophysical exploration method Provides case studies on the exploration of oil, gas, and groundwater with step-by-step instructions using remote sensing technology Serves as a practical field book for exploration geophysicists who never used or rarely use remote sensing. Enables exploration geophysicists to understand and interpret remote sensing data for the assessment of complex explorations This book is an excellent resource for professionals, researchers, academics, and students with a background in remote sensing across many disciplines in Earth sciences such as geology, hydrology, petrology, mining, geography, geosciences, etc.

Advanced Algorithms for Mineral and Hydrocarbon Exploration Using Synthetic Aperture Radar is a research- and practically-based reference that bridges the gap between the remote sensing industry and the mineral and hydrocarbon exploration industry. In this context, the book explains how to commercialize the applications of synthetic aperture radar and quantum interferometry synthetic aperture radar (QInSAR) for mineral and hydrocarbon exploration. This multidisciplinary reference is useful for oil and gas companies, the mining industry, geoscientists, and coastal and petroleum engineers. - Presents both theoretical and practical applications of various types of remote sensing for hydrocarbon and mineral exploration - Covers specific problems for exploration professionals and provides applications for solving each problem - Includes more than 100 images and figures to help explain the concepts and applications described in the book

Practical Geochemistry written by Paul Alexandre and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-05-24 with Science categories.

This book is a marked departure from typical introductory geochemistry books available: It provides a simple, straightforward, applied, and down-to-earth no-nonsense introduction to geochemistry. It is for the undergraduate students who are introduced to the subject for the first time, but also for practicing geologists who do not need the heavy-duty theory, but some clear, simple, and useful practical tips and pointers. This book, written from the point of view of a practicing geologist, introduces the fundamental and most relevant principles of geochemistry, explaining them whenever possible in plain terms. Crucially, this textbook covers – in a single volume! – practical and useful topics that other introductory geochemistry books ignore, such as sampling and sample treatment, analytical geochemistry, data treatment and geostatistics, classification and discrimination diagrams, geochemical exploration, and environmental geochemistry. The main strengths of this book are the breadth of useful and practical topics, the straightforward and approachable way in which it is written, the numerous real-world and specific geological examples, and the exercises and review questions (using real-world data and providing on-line answers). It is therefore easily understood by the beginner geochemist or any geologist who desires to use geochemistry in their daily work.

Beginning in the early days of the Space Age - well before the advent of manned spaceflight - the United States, followed soon by other nations, undertook an ambitious effort to study the planets of the solar system. The remarkable fruits of this research revolutionized the public's view of their celestial neighbors, capturing the imaginations of people from all backgrounds like nothing else save the Apollo lunar missions. From the first space probes to the most recent planetary rovers, they have continually delivered impressive discoveries and reshaped our understanding of the cosmos. Offering fascinating investigations into this crucial chapter in space history, this collection of specially commissioned essays from leading historians opens new vistas in our understanding of the development of planetary science.
