Summary of cutting-edge research, latest advances, and future directions in low carbon and renewable energy systems Renewable Energy Technologies for Low-Carbon Development provides a comprehensive overview of recent and cutting-edge research progress in a variety of current renewable energy and low carbon development research areas, focusing on sustainable energy from various perspectives such as thermoelectric power generation, organic solar cells, Na-ion, solar thermochemical energy storage, and nano-friction power generation. The book discusses the methodologies and research development of each renewable energy route based on its unique characteristics. Following a brief overview of renewable energy, this book also reviews low-carbon research in traditional fossil energy and promotes the development of renewable energy with the sustainable recovery and utilization of carbon. Because of the uniqueness of CO2 in low-carbon development, CO2 storage and application are discussed separately. Written by three highly qualified authors, Renewable Energy Technologies for Low-Carbon Development explores sample topics including: Thermoelectric power generators and their applications, application of nanomaterials in organic solar cells, and advances in low-temperature Na-ion battery energy storage Thermochemical energy storage for renewable solar energy utilization, and recent progress and new challenges in triboelectric nanogenerators Manufacturing, recovery, and reuse of wind turbine blades in wind power generation and electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction in fuel cells Carbon fiber in renewable energy development, sustainable carbon nanofluids of petroleum extraction, and carbon dioxide capture and chemical conversion into fuels Renewable Energy Technologies for Low-Carbon Development is an essential reference on the subject for materials scientists, power engineers, electrochemists, electronics engineers, and all professionals working at energy supplying companies and in the broader chemical industry.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has adopted an ambitious strategy to make Nigeria the world’s 20th largest economy by 2020. Sustaining such a pace of growth will entail rapid expansion of the level of activity in key carbon-emitting sectors, such as power, oil and gas, agriculture and transport. In the absence of policies to accompany economic growth with a reduced carbon foot-print, emissions of greenhouse gases could more than double in the next two decades. This study finds that there are several options for Nigeria to achieve the development objectives of vision 20:2020 and beyond, but stabilizing emissions at 2010 levels, and with domestic benefits in the order of 2 percent of GDP. These benefits include cheaper and more diversified electricity sources; more efficient operation of the oil and gas industry; more productive and climate –resilient agriculture; and better transport services, resulting in fuel economies, better air quality, and reduced congestion. The study outlines several actions that the Federal Government could undertake to facilitate the transition towards a low carbon economy, including enhanced governance for climate action, integration of climate consideration in the Agriculture Transformation Agenda, promotion of energy efficiency programs, scale-up of low carbon technologies in power generation (such as renewables an combined cycle gas turbines), and enhance vehicle fuel efficiency.

Renewable Energy Communities And The Low Carbon Energy Transition In Europe written by Frans H. J. M. Coenen and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-01-03 with Political Science categories.

This volume addresses renewable energy communities, and in particular renewable energy cooperatives (REScoops), in the context of the revised EU Renewables Directive. It provides a comprehensive account of the history and development of the renewable energy community movement in over six different countries of continental Europe. It addresses their visions, strategy, organisation, agency, and more particularly the challenges they encounter. This is of particular importance to gain more understanding into how renewable energy communities fare in domestic energy markets where they are confronted with regime institutions, structures and incumbents’ agency that tend to favour maintaining of the status quo while blocking attempts to empower and institutionalise renewable energy communities as market entrants having a disruptive, radical green and localist agenda. This volume will be an invaluable reference for academics and practitioners with an interest in social innovation in sustainable transitions, the role of community energy in energy markets, their agency, as well as an outlook to the impact that the EU Renewables Directive may have to change national legislation and policy frameworks to create a level playing field that is essentially more fair and beneficial to renewable energy communities.

Low Carbon Technology Transfer written by David G. Ockwell and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-12 with Nature categories.

Low carbon technology transfer to developing countries has been both a lynchpin of, and a key stumbling block to a global deal on climate change. This book brings together for the first time in one place the work of some of the world's leading contemporary researchers in this field. It provides a practical, empirically grounded guide for policy makers and practitioners, while at the same time making new theoretical advances in combining insights from the literature on technology transfer and the literature on low carbon innovation. The book begins by summarizing the nature of low carbon technology transfer and its contemporary relevance in the context of climate change, before introducing a new theoretical framework through which effective policy mechanisms can be analyzed. The north-south, developed-developing country differences and synergies are then introduced together with the relevant international policy context. Uniquely, the book also introduces questions around the extent to which current approaches to technology transfer under the international policy regime might be considered to be 'pro-poor'. Throughout, the book draws on cutting edge empirical work to illustrate the insights it affords. The book concludes by setting out constructive ways forward towards delivering on existing international commitments in this area, including practical tools for decision makers.

Low Carbon Development: Key Issues is the first comprehensive textbook to address the interface between international development and climate change in a carbon constrained world. It discusses the key conceptual, empirical and policy-related issues of low carbon development and takes an international and interdisciplinary approach to the subject by drawing on insights from across the natural sciences and social sciences whilst embedding the discussion in a global context. The first part explores the concept of low carbon development and explains the need for low carbon development in a carbon constrained world. The book then discusses the key issues of socio-economic, political and technological nature for low carbon development, exploring topics such as the political economy, social justice, financing and carbon markets, and technologies and innovation for low carbon development. This is followed by key issues for low carbon development in policy and practice, which is presented based on cross-cutting issues such as low carbon energy, forestry, agriculture and transportation. Afterwards, practical case studies are discussed from low carbon development in low income countries in Africa, middle income countries in Asia and Latin America and high income countries in Europe and North America. Written by an international team of leading academics and practitioners in the field of low carbon development, this book is essential reading for students, academics, professionals and policy-makers interested in the fields of low carbon development, climate change mitigation, climate policy, climate change and development, global environmental change, and environment and development.
