The wind whispers promises of clean energy, the sun shines down with the potential to power our future. Yet, as we embark on this Green Revolution, the path forward isn't always bathed in golden light. It's with both unbridled passion and mindful foresight that I invite you to explore the journey within these pages. As an individual deeply committed to sustainability and innovation, I've spent years traversing the global landscape, witnessing the challenges and opportunities of the energy transition firsthand. From spearheading groundbreaking companies in the renewable sector to navigating the complexities of diverse international environments, the journey has been as exhilarating as it was humbling. This book, "Renewable Energy, The Green Revolution and Its Safety Net," isn't simply a celebration of clean energy's potential, but a comprehensive exploration of the revolution unfolding around us. It acknowledges the undeniable hope for the future fuelled by wind turbines and solar panels, but also delves into the safety net we must weave to ensure this transformation is inclusive and sustainable. Let me share a personal anecdote. On a visit to a remote village in India, I witnessed how a simple solar panel installation brought light, not just literally, but to the aspirations of its residents. It was a potent reminder of the ripple effect this revolution can have - empowering communities, creating jobs and fostering a healthier planet. Yet, even amidst such transformative moments, it's crucial to recognize the inherent complexities of this transition. Concerns around job displacement, grid integration and resource access cannot be ignored. This book delves into these challenges head-on, proposing solutions and fostering discussion. My call to action is simple: embrace the Green Revolution with open arms, but do so with informed eyes. This book is your guide and companion on this journey, offering not just the promise of a brighter future, but the tools to navigate its complexities and build a truly sustainable world. Let us embark on this journey together, with optimism tempered by foresight, innovation guided by responsibility and action fuelled by hope. The future is ours to shape, and this book is an invitation to play your part. Welcome to the Green Revolution.

Renowned American sociologist Charles Derber imagines a surprise encounter with Karl Marx's ghost in London's Highgate cemetery, leading to a night-long conversation about the problems plaguing the world. The economic crisis, climate change, war, the future of capitalism and the 'Arab Spring' are all discussed. The ghost reconsiders his theories as he speaks eloquently about American labour, environmental, gender and anti-racist struggles. The engrossing, funny and provocative conversation, with appearances from other ghosts such as John Maynard Keynes, offers new insights into the relevance and flaws of Marx's thought, indicating how we can get to a better world.

In 2021, the United Nations Secretary-General will convene the Food Systems Summit to advance dialogue and action towards transforming the way the world produces, consumes and thinks about food guided by the overarching vision of a fairer, more sustainable world. The Secretary-General will also convene the High-Level Dialogue on Energy (HLDE) to promote the implementation of the energy-related goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Given the inextricable linkages between the energy and agriculture sectors, integrating the nexus perspective within the FSS and the HLDE is crucial to formulate a joint vision of actions to advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement. In this context, IRENA and FAO have decided to jointly develop a report on the role of renewable energy used in food chain to advance energy and food security as well as climate action towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement. While energy has a key enabling role in food system transformation and innovation in agriculture, its current use is unsustainable because of the high dependence on fossil fuels and frequent access to energy in developing countries. The challenge is to disconnect fossil fuel use from food system transformation without hampering food security. The use of renewable energy in food systems offers vast opportunities to address this challenge and help food systems meet their energy needs while advancing rural development while contributing to rural development and climate action.

When the Women’s March gathered millions just one day after Trump’s inauguration, a new era of progressive action was born. Organizing on the far Right led to Trump’s election, bringing authoritarianism and the specter of neo-fascism, and intensifying corporate capitalism’s growing crises of inequality and injustices. Yet now we see a new universalizing resistance among progressive and left movements for truth, dignity, and a world based on democracy, equality, and sustainability. Derber offers the first comprehensive guide to this new era and an original vision and strategy for movement success. He convincingly shows how only a new universalizing wave, a progressive and revolutionary "movement of movements," can counter the world-universalizing economic and cultural forces of intensifying corporate and far-right power. Derber explores the crises and eroding legitimacy of the globalized capitalist system and the right wing movements that helped create the Trump era. He shows how left universalizing movements can--and must—converge to propel a mass base that can prevent societal, economic, or ecological collapse, stop a resurgent Right, and build a democratic social alternative. He describes tactics and strategies for thisnew progressive movement. Brief guest "interludes" by Medea Benjamin, Noam Chomsky, Ralph Nader, Bill Fletcher, Juliet Schor, Gar Alperovitz, Chuck Collins, Matt Nelson, Janet Wallace, and other prominent figures tell how to coalesce and universalize activism into a more powerful movement wave—at local, community, national, and international levels. Vivid and highly accessible, this book is for activists, students, and all citizens concerned about the erosion of justice and democracy. It thoroughly illuminates the rationale, theory, practice, humanism, love, and joy of the social transformation that we urgently need.
