The reproductive system consists of the hypothalamic-pituitary unit, the gonads (testes or ovaries), the reproductive tract, and the external genitalia. The functions of the reproductive system are to produce and deliver gametes (spermatozoa or oocytes) for sexual reproduction, and produce hormones that regulate reproductive function and secondary sex characteristics. Abnormalities in the physiologic function affect the development and delivery of gametes, and potential fertility. Male infertility may be due to abnormalities of hormonal control, testicular function, or sperm transport or delivery. Female infertility can be divided into several categories: ovarian, tubal and peritoneal, uterine, cervical, and other. This book provides a comprehensive review of the reproductive physiology; emphasizing hormonal control, gamete production, fertilization, implantation, and embryonic development. By developing a clear understanding of what is normal, you will better understand the abnormalities affecting fertility and the mechanisms behind treatment.

Cell Death In Reproductive Physiology written by Jonathan L. Tilly and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Medical categories.

The regulation of cell death in various reproductive tissues, as in other ma jor organ systems of the body, has become a focal point of research activity in many laboratories over the past few years. As such, the need for a "for mal" meeting to highlight recent work in this field, as well as to integrate knowledge from other sources (such as investigators working on cell death in cancer and immune function) in the broad context of identifying con served pathways that coordinate life-and-death decisions in diverse cell types, became apparent. Therefore, the goals of the Scientific Committee of the International Symposium on Cell Death in Reproductive Physiology, spon sored by Serono Symposia USA, were already predetermined by this need. Simply stated, we sought to bring together for the first time a select cohort of reproductive biologists and cell death researchers, many but not all cho sen based on their pioneering efforts in elucidating the fundamental aspects of apoptosis in reproductive and nonreproductive tissues, as a means to re view the current status of the field, foster new ideas, and promote scientific collaborations. In the ensuing chapters of this book, summaries of work dis cussed at the meeting are presented to emphasize both the diversity and the similarities in the occurrence and regulation of apoptosis in tissues of the male and female reproductive systems.

Knobil And Neill S Physiology Of Reproduction written by Tony M. Plant and has been published by Academic Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-11-15 with Science categories.

The Fourth Edition of Knobil & Neill continues to serve as a reference aid for research, to provide the historical context to current research, and most importantly as an aid for graduate teaching on a broad range of topics in human and comparative reproduction. In the decade since the publication of the last edition, the study of reproductive physiology has undergone monumental changes. Chief among these advances are in the areas of stem cell development, signaling pathways, the role of inflammation in the regulatory processes in the various tissues, and the integration of new animal models which have led to a greater understanding of human disease. The new edition synthesizes all of this new information at the molecular, cellular, and organismal levels of organization and present modern physiology a more understandable and comparative context. The Fourth Edition has been extensively revised, reflecting new fundamental advancements in this rapidly advancing field. Provides a common language for researchers across the fields of physiology, endocrinology, and biology to discuss their understanding of reproduction. Saves academic researchers time in quickly accessing the very latest details on reproductive physiology, as opposed to searching through thousands of journal articles.
