Solid requirements engineering has become increasingly essential to on-time and on-budget delivery of software and systems projects. As more engineering programs make it a mandatory part of their curricula, students and working engineers require significant training to master the field, especially the complicated emerging ancillary software tools vital to the requirements engineering process. With a focus on software-intensive systems, Requirements Engineering for Software and Systems provides a probing and comprehensive review of recent developments in intelligent systems, soft computing techniques, and their diverse applications in manufacturing. Topics covered can be applied to the requirements engineering practices for: Advanced production machines and systems Collaborative and responsive manufacturing systems Digital manufacturing E-manufacturing E-business and virtual enterprises Fit manufacturing Human machine interfaces Innovative design technologies Intelligent and competitive manufacturing Intelligent planning and scheduling systems Mechatronics and MEMS Micro and nano manufacturing Production automation and control Reconfigurable manufacturing systems Sustainable manufacturing systems Robotics To illustrate key ideas associated with requirements engineering, the text presents three common example systems: an airline baggage handling system, a point-of-sale system for one location of a large pet store chain, and a system for a smart home in which one or more PCs control various aspects of the home’s functions. The selected systems encompass a wide range of applications—from embedded to organic, for both industrial and consumer uses.

Requirements Engineering written by Linda A. Macaulay and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Computers categories.

This book has two audiences: the practising Requirements Engineer and the advanced student of software engineering or computer science. The book is unique because it introduces latest research results and, at the same time, presents highly practical and useful techniques. This book is complementary to texts on software requirements and system Requirements Engineering because of its focus on the problems caused by the fact that Requirements Engineering involves people. Throughout this book the author has sought to introduce the reader to a number of techniques which have not previously been included within mainstream computer science literature. The techniques chosen have been shown to work in practice in both commercial and research pro jects. The appendices contain step-by-step guides to particular tech niques; sufficient detail is provided for readers to try the techniques for themselves. The problem faced by the Requirements Engineer is complex, it con cerns meeting the needs of the customer and at the same time meeting the needs of the designer.

Solid requirements engineering has increasingly been recognized as the key to improved, on-time, and on-budget delivery of software and systems projects. New software tools are emerging that are empowering practicing engineers to improve their requirements engineering habits. However, these tools are not usually easy to use without significant training. Requirements Engineering for Software and Systems, Fourth Edition is intended to provide a comprehensive treatment of the theoretical and practical aspects of discovering, analyzing, modeling, validating, testing, and writing requirements for systems of all kinds, with an intentional focus on software-intensive systems. It brings into play a variety of formal methods, social models, and modern requirements writing techniques to be useful to practicing engineers. The book is intended for professional software engineers, systems engineers, and senior and graduate students of software or systems engineering. Since the first edition, there have been made many changes and improvements to this textbook. Feedback from instructors, students, and corporate users was used to correct, expand, and improve the materials. The fourth edition features two newly added chapters: "On Non-Functional Requirements" and "Requirements Engineering: Road Map to the Future." The latter provides a discussion on the relationship between requirements engineering and such emerging and disruptive technologies as Internet of Things, Cloud Computing, Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, and Affective Computing. All chapters of the book were significantly expanded with new materials that keep the book relevant to current industrial practices. Readers will find expanded discussions on new elicitation techniques, agile approaches (e.g., Kanpan, SAFe, and DEVOps), requirements tools, requirements representation, risk management approaches, and functional size measurement methods. The fourth edition also has significant additions of vignettes, exercises, and references. Another new feature is scannable QR codes linked to sites containing updates, tools, videos, and discussion forums to keep readers current with the dynamic field of requirements engineering.

A new product can be easy or difficult to use, it can be efficient or cumbersome, engaging or dispiriting, it can support the way we work and think - or not. What options are available for systematically addressing such parameters and provide users with an appropriate functionality, usability and experience? In the last decades, several fields have evolved that encompass a user-centred approach to create better products for the people who use them. This book provides a comprehensible introduction to the subject. It is aimed first and foremost at people involved in software and product development – product managers, project managers, consultants and analysts, who face the major challenge of developing highly useful and usable products. Topics include: The most important user-centred techniques and their alignment in the development process Planning examples of user-centred activities for projects User-oriented approaches for organisations Real-life case studies Checklists, tips and a lot of background information provide help for practitioners

At a time when software development is falling far behind hardware development, the author offers the solution of rapid evolutionary Development. This is based on the premise that a prosperous complex system must start as a successful simple system and then evolve. Describes how the prototyping process fits into an evolutionary software development process that can support a strong information system as a prerequisite to a strong and competitive company.

Since the late 1980s, the CAiSE conferences have provided a forum for the p- sentation and exchange of research results and practical experiences within the ?eld of Information Systems Engineering. CAiSE 2001 was the 13th conference in this series and was held from 4th to 8th June 2001 in the resort of Int- laken located near the three famous Swiss mountains – the Eiger, M ̈ onch, and Jungfrau. The ?rst two days consisted of pre-conference workshops and tutorials. The workshop themes included requirements engineering, evaluation of modeling methods, data integration over the Web, agent-oriented information systems, and the design and management of data warehouses. Continuing the tradition of recent CAiSE conferences, there was also a doctoral consortium. The p- conference tutorials were on the themes of e-business models and XML appli- tion development. The main conference program included three invited speakers, two tuto- als, and a panel discussion in addition to presentations of the papers in these proceedings. We also included a special ‘practice and experience’ session to give presentersanopportunitytoreportonanddiscussexperiencesandinvestigations on the use of methods and technologies in practice. Weextendourthankstothemembersoftheprogramcommitteeandallother referees without whom such conferences would not be possible. The program committee, whose members came from 20 di?erent countries, selected 27 hi- quality research papers and 3 experience reports from a total of 97 submissions. The topics of these papers span the wide-range of topics relevant to information systems engineering – from requirements and design through to implementation and operation of complex and dynamic systems.
