In April 2006, an English bulldog was abandoned in a busy parking lot in Victorville, California. Severely malnourished, he roamed the parking lot and dashed between cars in search of food, water, and shade. Eventually saved by a bulldog rescue organization, Tazz was officially adopted in January 2007 and now greets everyone at the front door of his permanent home with a happy dance. Rescued! shares twenty-six heartfelt and compelling stories of rescue and rehabilitation that represent some of the best canine rescue organizations throughout California. These sweet tales of unconditional love and triumph over hardship will not only fill dog lovers with joy, wonder, and sadness, but also with an understanding that adoption can be a compassionate alternative to purchasing a dog from a breeder. From a dachshund who overcomes paralysis to the golden retriever who becomes a record-breaking swimmer, it is evident that in the end, these beautiful animals have guardian angels. All animals deserve love, compassion, and someone special to care for them. The stories in Rescued! joyfully celebrate the successful outcomes of rescued canines who now, thanks to the selfless work of volunteers, can greet visitors at their front doors with their own happy dance.

Now he's grown up . . . and is about to be sent away again, to a place from which there will be no return. John grew up with Raja. The orangutan was his friend, his brother -- never his pet. But when John's parents split up and he moved across the country, he left Raja behind. Now Raja is suffering. There's one last chance to save Raja -- a chance that will force John to confront his fractured family and the captivity he's imposed on himself all of these years.Eliot Schrefer's last two novels, Endangered and Threatened, were both finalists for the National Book Award. With Rescued, he brings his remarkable storytelling to the American landscape, giving us a boy who must redefine his own humanity and an orangutan who will need his help in order to return home.

North Shore Rescue written by Allen Billy and has been published by FriesenPress this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-09-22 with Sports & Recreation categories.

The North Shore Rescue Team has existed since 1965 and has performed thousands of search and rescue operations on the North Shore Mountains and other locations throughout British Columbia and Washington State. Team activities have assisted at least 4,500 lost or injured individuals in mountain and wilderness settings. While these operations have been featured in numerous media reports throughout Canada and other countries, there is an additional element to these operations to which few people have been exposed. This book presents the oral history of the North Shore Rescue team. Team members, their spouses, and subjects provide unique insights, recollections and perspectives on search and rescue operations. Some stories reflect life and death struggles, others are humorous, some generate disturbing thoughts and some are politically incorrect. Nevertheless, these are the memories and stories from people involved with the most experienced, best trained, best equipped volunteer search and rescue team in Canada. This is a book about selfless volunteers performing complex rescue operations, camaraderie under stressful conditions, lives saved, lives lost, as told by people who were involved. These stories will be of interest to those who climb, snowshoe, ski, hike, kayak, explore or engage in any other form of outdoor recreational activity. None of these stories have ever been revealed to the general public. Each operational story contains a lesson associated with personal safety and provides insights into what to do, or not do, when lost or injured in the wilds.
