This book aims to demystify the law for scientists and instructing officials by exploring the science and legal concepts of risk and precaution for national legislation to facilitate safe trade in agricultural products (in compliance with international trade rules). The book is not meant to supplant the many authoritative titles on legislative drafting, but provide some practical exercises on instructions and drafting for this area of law. The book also includes some important factors in legal reform, such as the audience for and access to legislation. It, therefore, has the potential to be a valuable resource for coordinated training of instructors and drafters by helping to secure a robust two-way dialogue between them.

Biotoxins are naturally occurring substances present in living organisms as a way of conferring biological defense or protection on such organisms. But their presence in food has been found to be a threat to unsuspecting food consumers. While they are exploited as biocontrol agents and as a biological defense mechanism against pests and predators in the field, biotoxins are implicated in foodborne illness in humans if consumed. Naturally occurring substances present in food include glycoalkaloids found in potatoes and lectins (phytohemagglutinin) in green beans and red kidney beans. Biotoxins in Food: Threats and Benefits discusses the natural poisons present in food, the threats posed, and the possible detection methods. This book assesses the implications of these biotoxins in food by evaluating the threats posed by the consumption of these naturally occurring poisons and the various emerging detection procedures available in the food industry. Several reports from contributing authors focus on the various threats linked to various food products and offer solutions in terms of removal. Early detection of these biotoxins to prevent food illnesses is well documented. Key Features: Discusses the emerging concepts of types, sources, and distribution of biotoxins in food Addresses the prevalence and applications of biotoxins in food products Analyzes the current detection technology of biotoxins in foods

The result is undoubtedly an excellent volume that should adorn the bookcase of any and all interested in the important problem of the relation between international rule-making and regulatory autonomy of states in this area of international economic law.Õ Ð Pieter Jan Kuijper, University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands This Handbook provides state-of-the-art analysis by leading authors on the links between the international trade regime and health and environment concerns Ð concerns that make up an increasing proportion of WTO dispute settlement. The volume brings to the fore the debates and complexities surrounding these issues and their implications for the international trading system. The Handbook begins in Part I with a survey of general issues that sets a context for the more specific sectorial studies. Part II considers the most pressing issues within health regulation and trade law, whilst Part III is devoted to environmental regulation and its interface with trade law. Part IV looks specifically at aspects of the dispute settlement process and in particular standard of review, and the book concludes in Part V with a consideration of the impact of trade measures on the health and environment regimes of emerging economies. This comprehensive yet concise Handbook will appeal to academics and researchers in international trade law and environmental law, as well as trade law practitioners.

Hand Book Of Processed Functional Meat Products written by Sajad A. Rather and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-10-22 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Functional food technology aims to boost consumer well-being by providing health benefits beyond that of fundamental nutrition. Meat and meat products have numerous disease-preventing and health-promoting benefits. However, the meat industry has faced many new challenges since the World Health Organization (WHO) studies suggesting that small increases in the risk of several cancers may be associated with high consumption of processed meat. In addition, consumers often associate meat with a negative health image. This negative image of meat is mainly due to fat content such as saturated fatty acids and cholesterol and process induced toxicants like N-nitroso compounds and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and the alliance of these with chronic diseases. In this context, the functional food concept applied to meat processing has gained importance, especially by reduction/replacement of fat, sodium, nitrites, reduction of process induced toxicants and addition of beneficial components such as probiotics and bioactive compounds. Hand Book of Processed Functional Meat Products provides meat industry professionals with a step-by-step guide to post-mortem muscle chemistry, functional and cultured meat products-design and development, bioactive compounds, reduction of carcinogenic compounds, application of enzymes and nanotechnology, innovation in sensory assessment, authentication and marketing, 3D printing in the development of meat based products and regulatory and consumer challenges in functional meat products. This book differs from other publications on functional meat product processing in that it offers comprehensive coverage and in-depth discussion of the most recent scientific and technological applications in functional meat products. Many meat science and technology books available on the market describe meat chemistry, properties and basic science with only a rudimentary understanding of meat processing, functional meat products development and applications. Therefore, this work will be helpful for food industry professionals, policy makers, researchers, students, teachers and nutritionists and dieticians for a complete and up-to-date overview of functional meats processing and quality evaluation.
