REACH - an apt and popularly used acronym by many organisations to reflect services that are easily available and for the community. An easy read with a "how-to" intent, this book provides the insights and process of a practical and viable community mental health team. The authors of the book have produced a book which is as close an account to the reality of making the REACH team a value add to the mental wellness of students. This is the first book in Singapore that details the synergy of the various levels of decision making to enable a child and adolescent community mental health team to take shape, allowing hospital staff to reach students and service providers of the primary care levels. REACH Singapore is forward looking and constantly open to improvements and change. Its hope is that as it moves to new heights in service delivery, others would have started to emulate and start their cycle of the life-giving process of community mental health to child and adolescents in their own systems.

This issue consists of five articles profiling different aspects of the national evaluation of the Comprehensive Community Mental Health Services for Children and Their Families Program. Over the last eight years, this program provided grants to develop community-based systems of care for children with serious emotional disturbance and their families. A comprehensive, multilevel evaluation has been conducted that has provided information to local grantee communities and the federal government on the implementation and effectiveness of systems of care. Touching on a range of questions that the evaluation is designed to address, the articles in this special issue provide more general information on the system-of-care approach to addressing children's mental health problems.

Barriers to community mental health centers (such as stigma, waiting lists) prevent youth from receiving necessary services. Providing Mental Health Services to Youth Where They Are, identifies the reform that is needed in children's mental health service. As the issues of systems of mental health care have received increased attention, so has the recognition of the benefits of providing services to youth where they are: that is, in natural settings, such as home or school. Principles to include in systems of mental health care for youth are as equally important as actually reaching the youth: involvement of families, school staff, community leaders, and clergy. The development of programs are matched to the developmental, cultural, and other needs of youth in a community so they mesh with existing services. This book describes how these principles play out in school-, home-, and community-based mental health programs for youth.

Task Force members were selected for their widely respected research and clinical expertise pertaining to a particular child service system -- mental health, education, juvenile justice, social welfare, and primary care -- or for their longstanding leadership in the reform of mental health services for children. These carefully chosen professionals set out to accomplish three goals: * to examine the state of mental health services for children and adolescents across the major child service systems, * to identify effective or promising models of treatment and service delivery to better meet the mental health needs of youth, and * to denote key barriers to the dissemination of such treatment and service delivery models. Divided into three sections, this report catalogs their findings. The first paper summarizes and synthesizes the key systems-level and clinical-level changes advocated within the report. The next set of articles examines innovative approaches to mental health treatment and service delivery within the major child service systems, with conclusions based on empirical research and the informed guidance of experts. The final set identifies major barriers to the dissemination of innovative models and recommends strategies for overcoming these barriers. In its entirety, the report is intended to serve as a state-of-the-art document setting forth the principles upon which the reform of children's mental health services should be based.

This outstanding textbook presents innovative interventions for youth with severe emotional and behavioral disorders. Community Treatment for Youth is designed to fill a gap between the knowledge base and clinical practice through its presentation of theory, practice parameters, training requirements, and research evidence. Featuring community-based and state-of-the-art services for youth with severe emotional and behavioral disorders and their families, this volume describes each intervention in depth, along with the supporting evidence for its utility. Most chapters present a single intervention as an alternative to institutional care. Shared characteristics of these interventions include delivery of services in the community (homes, schools, and neighborhoods) provided largely by parents and paraprofessional staff. The interventions are appropriate to use in any of the child human services sectors and have been developed in the field with real-world child and family clients. In addition, they offer a reduced cost in comparison to institutional care. Several chapters address diagnostic-specific psychosocial and psychopharmacological treatments, which are likely to be provided as adjunctive treatment in a clinical setting. Designed to update professionals in the field about effective services, Community Treatment for Youth will serve as a resource for academics, policymakers, practitioners, consumers, and researchers.

Beidas and has been published by Oxford University Press, USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014 with Medical categories.

Mental health disorders are common in youth, impacting up to 1 in 5 children and adolescents. Typically, mental health difficulties result in impaired functioning and lower quality of life for both youth and their families. Fortunately, there are psychosocial treatments for the mental health needs of youth that have earned the -evidence-based- label. However, these treatments are not widely available, and it is estimated that it can take up to 17 years for them to be transported into community settings. As a result, a new field of dissemination and implementation (DI) science has emerged to address this problem. Dissemination refers to the transfer of information about evidence-based practices to community settings, and implementation refers to active strategies to assist adoption of evidence-based practices in community settings. Dissemination and Implementation of Evidence-Based Practices in Child and Adolescent Mental Health is the first book to bring together the world's foremost experts in implementation science and evidence-based practices for youth to provide the latest findings around DI for children and adolescents. Chapters provide comprehensive coverage of the science of dissemination and implementation across contexts, disorders, and international perspectives. This volume will be an essential resource to implementation scientists and scholars, instructors in doctoral-level training programs, and graduate students, as well as policymakers, community mental health clinicians and administrators, school administrators, researchers, and other mental health professionals.
