The Pacific and Regional Archive for Digital Sources in Endangered Cultures (PARADISEC) has been on the cutting edge of digital archiving, building a significant historical collection and community of practice engaged in the preservation and accessibility of research materials. Over the ten years of PARADISEC's operation, the repository has grown to represent over 860 languages from across the world, including cultural materials from the Pacific region and South-East Asia, North America, Africa and Europe. With over 5000 hours of audio, the extent of the archival material, as well as the inclusion of a variety of styles such as songs, narratives and elicitation, has resulted in an invaluable resource for researchers and communities alike. PARADISEC's innovation in archival practice allows communities to access original recordings of their own cultural heritage, and provides fieldworkers with a wealth of primary material. Research, Records and Responsibility explores developments in collaborative archiving practice between archives and the communities they serve and represent, incorporating case studies of historical recordings, visual data and material culture. It brings together the work of Australian and international scholars commemorating ten years of PARADISEC, and reflects on the development of research and language archiving.

Designed to protect the privacy of individual student test scores, grades, and other education records, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 places limits the access of educational researches, and slows research not only in education but also in related fields, such as child welfare and health. Recent trends have converged to greatly increase the supply of data on student performance in public schools. Education policies now emphasize education standards and testing to measure progress toward those standards, as well as rigorous education research. At the same time, private firms and public agencies, including schools, have replaced most paper records with electronic data systems. Although these databases represent a rich source of longitudinal data, researchers' access to the individually identifiable data they contain is limited by the privacy protections of FERPA. To explore possibilities for data access and confidentiality in compliance with FERPA and with the Common Rule for the Protection of Human Subjects, the National Academies and the American Educational Research Association convened the Workshop on Protecting Student Records and Facilitating Education Research in April 2008.

With the influx of internet and mobile technology usage, many medical institutions—from doctor’s offices to hospitals—have implemented new online technologies for the storage and access of health data as well as the monitoring of patient health. Telehealth was particularly useful during the COVID-19 pandemic, which monumentally increased its everyday usage. However, this transition of health data has increased privacy risks, and cyber criminals and hackers may have increased access to patient personal data. Medical staff and administrations must remain up to date on the new technologies and methods in securing these medical systems and records. The Research Anthology on Securing Medical Systems and Records discusses the emerging challenges in healthcare privacy as well as the technologies, methodologies, and emerging research in securing medical systems and enhancing patient privacy. It provides information on the implementation of these technologies as well as new avenues of medical security research. Covering topics such as biomedical imaging, internet of things, and watermarking, this major reference work is a comprehensive resource for security analysts, data scientists, hospital administrators, leaders in healthcare, medical professionals, health information managers, medical professionals, mobile application developers, security professionals, technicians, students, libraries, researchers, and academicians.
