Pasca-reformasi yang mendorong kran kebebasan dalam segala hal, baik pada aspek sosial, politik, ekonomi, keseniaan dibuka sangat luas dan bebas, sehingga hal tersebut juga berdampak pula pada kehidupan sosialkeagamaan. Perubahan kehidupan sosial-keagamaan pasca-reformasi adalah terjadi kebebasan pemahaman dan ekspresi keberagamaan di kalangan masyarakat. Kebebasan pemahaman keberagamaan tersebut berdampak pula pada ekspresi keagamaan di masyarakat mulai dari ekspresi keagamaan liberal, radikal, moderat, dan sebagainya. Di antara ekspresi keagamaan tersebut, yang paling mengkhawatirkan adalah ekspresi keagamaan radikal. Ekspresi keagamaan radikal merupakan perilaku keagamaan yang literalistik, tertutup, monolitik, eksklusif cenderung kasar dan keras. Sehingga sikap tersebut mendorong konflik dan kekacauan dalam tata kehidupan sosial-keagamaan terutama pada masyarakat plural seperti Indonesia. Keragaman agama sering dijadikan bahan pemicu konflik sosial-keagamaan di tengah masyarakat plural, sehingga jika dibiarkan tanpa segera dicarikan solusi strategis maka dapat mengganggu keharmonisan bangsa Indonesia. Maka salah satu solusi tersebut adalah dengan menyebarkan dan mempraksiskan nilai-nilai moderasi berbasis kearifan lokal seperti yang terbangun di Desa Balun, Kabupaten Lamongan. Latar belakang ini mendorong penulis untuk mengkaji lebih dalam fenomena tersebut sehingga lahirlah buku ini.

Dakwah Muhammadiyah mengalami perkembangan pola komunikasi dari konvensional ke dakwah digital. Dakwah Muhammadiyah terus mengalami perkembangan mengikuti arus perubahan masyarakat yang sedang masuk era revolusi industry 4.0 dengan teknologi informasi berbasis internet sebagai katalisator. Teknologi informasi sebagai katalisator era revolusi rindustri 4.0 telah banyak mempengaruhi pola aktivitas dan interaksi manusia dalam berbagai bidang termasuk bidang kehidupan keagamaan. Penggunaan teknologi informasi menjadi sebuah cara yang efektif dan efisien dalam menyampaikan informasi, termasuk informasi keagamaan untuk kepentingan dakwah. Revolusi Industri 4.0 menggabungkan teknologi oto-matisasi dengan adanya teknologi cyber. Sesuatu yang mencakup sistem cyber fisik, internet of things komputasi awan, komputasi kognatif. Tren ini telah mengubah banyak bidang kehidupan manusia, termasuk ekonomi, dunia kerja, gaya hidup bahkan kehidupan keagamaan di masyarakat.1 Secara ringkas, revolusi industri 4.0 menanamkan teknologi yang cerdas bisa terhubung dengan berbagai bidang kehidupan manusiawi. Prinsip rancangan revolusi industri 4.0 mempunyai empat prinsip. Pertama, interoperabilitas. Mesin, perangkat, sensor, dan manusiawi yaitu untuk bisa terhubung dan bisa saling berkomuniksi dengan satu sama lain melalui media massa untuk segalanya. Kedua, transparansi informasi. Sistem informasi menciptakan salinan dunia fisik secara virtual dengan adanya memperkarya model pabrik digital dengan data sensor. Ketiga, bantuan teknik sistem. Bantuan yaitu untuk membantu manusia mengumpulkan data dan membuat visualisai agar bisa membuat keputusan yang adil. Keempat, keputusan mandiri. Sistem siber-fisik untuk membuat keputusan dan melakuka tugas semandiri mungkin. Perkembangan teknologi informasi yang sangat pesat menjadikan masyarakat dunia telah bergerak dan beralih dari era tradisional, industrialisasi ke era informasi yang berujung pada hadirnya masyarakat informasi (information society). Rogers menyatakan bahwa masyarakat informasi adalah sebuah masyarakat yang sebagian besar angkatan kerjanya adalah pekerja di bidang informasi, dan informasi telah menjadi elemen yang dianggap paling penting dalam kehidupan.3 Atau dapat pula dikatakan teknologi informasi menjadi basic struktur atau panglima pendorong perubahan masyarakat. Berdasarkan kajian Sadar bahwa tren perubahan tersebut menyasar pula terhadap relasi komunikasi keagamaan (dakwah) pada komunitas keagamaan. Dimana anggota (jama’ah) komunitas keagamaan harus beradaptasi dengan penggunaan teknologi informasi (internet). Pemanfaatan teknologi informasi dalam rangka komunikasi dakwah Islam saat ini sedang tumbuh berkembang di masyarakat. Seperti situs-situs yang sudah popular di amsyarakat, seperti: Eramuslim.com, Islamlib.com, swaramuslim.com, MyQuran. Com, Ukhuwah.or.id, Isnet.com, dan pesantrenvirtual.com dan sebagainya. Situs-situs tersebut menjadi ajang media komunikasi dakwah untuk menyebarkan orientasi ideologi dan karakter keagamaannya ke masyarakat, mulai dari karakter ideologi keagamaan moderat, liberal, modern, tradisional hingga radikal-fundamentalis. Tren dakwah digital tersebut tampak pula terjadi di pola dakwah Muhammadiyah. Hal itu dalam rangka upaya menghadirkan unsur kekinian dalam dakwah Muhammadiyah. Semisal @lensamu yang kian hadir dengan desaindesain kece dan eye catching tanpa mengabaikan substansi dakwah. Atau televisi Muhammadiyah, TvMu, yang cukup sadar milenial dengan tampil multi-platform, mulai dari satelit parabola, streaming website, televisi berlangganan, dan yang terpenting, via akun youtube, TvMu channel.6 Dimana sebelumnya, pola komunikasi dakwah Muhammadiyah cenderung menggunakan pola dakwah konvensional, seperti ceramah di mimbar, pengumpulan (tatap muka) massa pengajian dan sebagainya. Adapun saat ini cenderung berkembang (bergeser) pada pola komunikasi dakwah digital. Pola komunikasi dakwah digital Muhammadiyah tampak semakin berkembang dan tumbuh pesat. Fenomen tersebut terlihat dengan banyak situs media online yang dibuat (diinisiasi) oleh aktivis Muhammadiyah baik secara resmi maupun mandiri. Dengan tujuan, dalam rangka menyebarkan ideologi dan agenda dakwah Muhammadiyah ke masyarakat lebih luas dan global.
