Questa biografia, che ci presenta il giornalista, lo scrittore, ma soprattutto l’uomo Luca Goldoni, consta di tre parti che non si presentano l’una di seguito all’altra, come tre discorsi nettamente separati, tre sconosciuti in fila da qualche parte che a malapena si accorgono della presenza altrui, ma si accavallano, si interrompono reciprocamente, si danno il cambio, come tre amici che si ritrovano dopo lungo tempo e, ansiosi di raccontarsi agli altri, intrecciano le loro voci creando un chiacchiericcio tutt’altro che fastidioso. Ed ecco allora che le parole dell’amico Ruggero Cerizza ricostruiscono episodi, frammenti della vita di Luca Goldoni inserendoli nel contesto storico di appartenenza, non solo per dotarli di spessore e consistenza, ma anche perché sono avvenimenti (della storia italiana o mondiale) che, accaduti sotto gli occhi di Luca, gli hanno fornito non solo materiale per i suoi pezzi, ma anche spunti di riflessione sull’umanità e su di sé. Ma qual è questo contesto? E’ quello dell’Italia novecentesca, che conosce il Fascismo, entra in guerra, faticosamente si risolleva, attraversa gli anni ’70 e ’80 con i loro chiaroscuri e tra mille ambivalenze si avvicina al nuovo millennio; ma è anche il contesto di un mondo falcidiato da guerre che devono essere documentate, perché se è vero che la storia si ripete, spesso sempre uguale, è altrettanto vero che la speranza che l’uomo possa imparare dagli errori del passato e agire diversamente rimane strenuamente appigliata nell’animo di ognuno.Ma il racconto di Ruggero viene spesso interrotto dalla voce stessa di Luca, che si leva a raccontare in prima persona della sua vita privata, del suo lavoro, ma anche di pensieri, preoccupazioni, gioie, spiritosaggini. Ed ecco che veniamo a conoscenza dei suoi familiari, sua moglie, suo figlio, sua madre, ci vengono raccontate avventure lavorative, vere e proprie “imprese di guerra”, ma anche aneddoti o dietro le quinte, impariamo quanto vita privata e lavoro possano affiancarsi e quanto si scontrino duramente, con Luca stesso a risentirne, costretto a diventare “l'inviato speciale dentro me stesso”. Sono dunque parole sincere, schiette quelle di Luca, che ci forniscono un grande insegnamento: tutto ciò che accade intorno a noi è una lezione che dobbiamo fare nostra, imparando ad estrapolare valori, competenze e conoscenze, tanto da esperienze che cambiano la vita quanto dai piccoli avvenimenti di ogni giorno. Ma come ci viene raccontato tutto questo? Per citare Luca, “raccontavo nei miei pezzi delle emozioni più che delle notizie, cercando di mettermi nei panni di un lettore che mi leggeva a 3000 km di distanza a Bologna, Milano, Roma o Firenze per “portarlo” con uno sforzo di fantasia o di emotività con me sul posto e fargli vivere ciò che io stavo vivendo”.Ma un altro Luca irrompe nella conversazione: è il Luca degli articoli, dei saggi, dei libri; pezzi che raccontano dell’umanità di tutti i giorni, intrisi di quei piccoli insegnamenti che ci sono utili in una conversazione qualunque o nella conduzione della nostra intera esistenza. Sono confessioni a cuore aperto, reportage dal mondo, curiosità su personaggi o avvenimenti, aneddoti, raccontini, insomma, tanti piccoli tesori dal linguaggio semplice, comprensibile, aperto a tutti e disposto ad assorbire da tutti. Per usare le parole di Luca, “sono anni che tengo un diario pubblico, parlo di cose mie, convinto che sia l'unico modo per parlare delle cose di tanti”. Le tre parti di questa biografia rappresentano, non soltanto una conversazione a cuore aperto, a cuore sgombro, ma un viaggio che attraversa il Novecento, facendoci scoprire oltre il giornalista, lo scrittore, anche un uomo che, attraverso le sue stesse parole scritte, parla di sé e, quindi, inevitabilmente, di tutti.

The power exercised by the mother on the son in Mediterranean cultures has been amply studied. Italy is a special case in the Modern Era and the phenomenon of Mammismo italiano is indeed well known. Scholars have traced this obsession with the mother figure to the Catholic cult of the Virgin Mary, but in fact, it is more ancient. What has not been adequately addressed however, is how Mammismo italiano has been manifested in complex ways in various modern artistic forms. Portrait of the Artist and His Mother in Twentieth-Century Italian Culture focuses on case studies of five prominent creative personalities, representing different, sometimes overlapping artistic genres (Luigi Pirandello, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Dino Buzzati, Carlo Levi, Federico Fellini). The author examines how the mother-son relationship not only affected, but actually shaped their work. Although the analysis uses mainly a psychological and psychoanalytical critical approach, the belief of the author, substantiated by historians, anthropologists and sociologists, is that historical and cultural conditions contributed to and reinforced the Italian character. This book concludes with an analysis of some examples of Italian film comedies, such as Fellini's and Monicelli's where mammismo/vitellonismo is treated with a lighter tone and a pointed self irony.
