Restoring The Faith written by Edith Waldvogel Blumhofer and has been published by University of Illinois Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993 with Pentecostalism categories.

American Pentecostalism began as a culturally isolated sect intent upon announcing the imminence of the world's end. The sect's early millenarian fervor gradually became muted in favor of flag-waving patriotism. At the end of the twentieth century it has become an affluent, worldwide movement thoroughly entrenched in popular culture. Edith Blumhofer uses the Assemblies of God, the largest classical Pentecostal denomination in the world, as a lens through which to view the changing nature of Anglo Pentecostalism in the United States. She illustrates how the original mission to proclaim the end resulted in the development of Bible schools, the rise of the charismatic movement, and the popularity of such figures as Aimee Semple McPherson, Charles Fox Parham, and David Du Plessis. Blumhofer also examines the sect's use of radio and television and the creation of a parallel Christian culture

Many books have been written on conservative politics. Many more have been written calling Christians to holiness and spiritual revival. Few, however, have managed to combine a clear explanation of the conservative political perspective with its corresponding personal and spiritual virtue. In INDIVISIBLE, James Robison, the founder and president of LIFE Outreach International, partners with Jay Richards, Ph.D., a writer who has appeared in both the New York Times and The Washington Post. Together, they tackle tough, controversial political issues facing conservative Christians today, including abortion, stem cell research, education, economics, health care, the environment, judicial activism, marriage, and others. Written to appeal to a broad spectrum of believers, INDIVISIBLE not only argues political questions from a Scriptural standpoint, it also provides simple arguments that Christians can use to support their beliefs in public settings. Most significantly, Robison and Richards recognize that the point of origin for spiritual and moral transformation is the individual. "We are convinced by historical precedent that long term cultural change requires not merely sound thinking and public good works but rather, God's spiritual and moral transformation of us as individuals, which will then transform our churches, our communities, our culture, and ultimately our politics." James Robison is the founder and president of LIFE Outreach International, a worldwide Christian relief organization. He is also the host of LIFE Today, a daily syndicated television program that reaches 300 million homes in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Australia. He is the author of many books, including The Absolutes, True Prosperity, and Living in Love, and has spoken to millions of people through evangelistic crusades since entering public ministry in 1962. Jay W. Richards, Ph.D., is a Senior Fellow at the Discovery Institute and the author of many books, including the award-winning Money, Greed, and God and The Privileged Planet. He is the executive director of the documentaries The Call of the Entrepreneur and The Birth of Freedom. He has been featured in the New York Times and the Washington Post and has appeared on Larry King Live. He has also lectured on economic myths to members of the U.S. Congress.

When love grows cold and vows forgotten, can faith be restored? Charles and Faith Young are numbers people. While Charles spends his days in a fancy Fort Collins office number-crunching, Faith teaches math to the students of Colorado High. Married for sixteen years, Charles and Faith both know unequivocally that one plus one should never equal three. When blame becomes the order of the day in the Young household for their failing marriage-blaming each other; blaming themselves-Charles and Faith each search for answers why the flame of love no longer burns brightly. In their efforts, one takes comfort from another a step too far. One chooses not to get mad, but to get even. Dying love is a slow burn. Is it too late for Charles and Faith to fan the embers and make love rise once again from the ashes of their broken marriage? Can they find their first love again-for each other, and for God?

Ian MacLeod and Annie Montgomery share much in common. As joyful children, although not actually related, they share a bond like brother and sister. As unhappy adults, they both suffer. Childhood summers spent together at Kilmegan Castle, Ian's ancient home on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, are full of adventures. Ian and Annie feel remarkable affection for one another, hoping that one day they will embark on the ultimate adventure together: repair and restoration of the castle. Even after Ian loses his father and Annie loses her mother, life is wonderful-until Annie begins to see Ian differently. In time, Annie becomes a gifted pianist and a talented architect. With fondness for Kilmegan Castle undimmed, she specializes in historical preservation. But Annie is also miserable, hopelessly suffering unrequited love for Ian. Only prayer and her faith in God help Annie to rise above her longings. Meanwhile, following an argument, Ian's wife dies in an accident on icy roads. Grief and guilt cause Ian to stop praying. He stops going to church. He is no longer certain that God exists. Ian feels broken. Like Kilmegan Castle, there are some good things going on inside, but mostly Ian just needs major restoration. Now, Duncan Montgomery, Annie's papa, is dying. He is convinced that God will allow him enough time to perform one last task, securing his daughter's happiness. Will Duncan succeed? Will Annie find love? Will Ian find restored faith?

During the week following the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, Americans gathered in unprecedented numbers to seek comfort and guidance from their religious leaders. Regardless of creed, the same questions echoed from the pews. Where can we find God amidst the rubble? How can we answer hate with greater love? Is there hope for peace or are the trumpets of Armageddon less distant than before? These were the questions ministers, priests, imams and rabbis had to address from their pulpits. Even as they spoke, the soul map of our nation was being recharted. The preachers' daunting task was to bring hope and direction to a people newly lost. Each of these sermons, by some of America's greatest preachers, is a testament of hope. Collectively, they rise to the spiritual challenge of our time.

This message from Chuck Pierce and Robert Heidler likens our spiritual defense to that of the children of Israel while in battle. Within the ranks there were those who carried huge shields to protect the bulk of the army. And just as we fight spiritual battles today, there is a mighty shield we can carry to protect us. This shield of faith is one of the main ways we can resist our enemy's attacks. We are fully capable of resisting the enemy's attacks, but we must first be able to recognize how Satan fights. His main weapons are to create fear and doubt in us and to tempt us to become complainers and murmurers. If we succumb, our faith is weakened. The keys to increasing our faith are found in knowing the Word of God, which engenders praise, thankfulness, trust and obedience.
