Return of the Birds - Terror from the sky! What if I told you all the beautiful birds that we love and feed suddenly changed and began to feed on us?It happened once in a sleepy resort town in Northern California called Bodega Bay. Now more than 55 years later, it begins again. But it is far worse this time. Species of birds including not just crows and sea gulls, but hawks, eagles and vultures have joined the invasion. What caused this? Why is it happening? Tory McKnight, a student of ornithology from UCSD becomes swept up in a nightmare from her beloved birds, and must try to solve the mystery before the whole town gets killed and a nationwide pandemic ensues. This Hitchcock-style suspense thriller was inspired by the movie “The Birds,” and the short story from Daphne du Maurier. Return of the Birds will have you searching the skies, and both scared to read more but unable to put it down. Hurry, enjoy this before they gather again. Look for the sequel Revenge of the Birds Interview with the author: Return of the Birds and Revenge of the Birds are very distinctive from your other books, why did you write them? I was always intrigued by the movie “The Birds” but felt too many questions were left unanswered. It niggled at me all my life, especially every time I watched the movie. I had to write the next chapters to the original story. Do you answer all the questions from the movie “The Birds?” Most of the questions get addressed, but in so doing more questions and concerns arise. There remains a good deal of suspense throughout the book and beyond. It resulted in me writing the sequel, Revenge of the Birds. Why do readers enjoy these books? If they love a classic cliffhanger or good thrillers they enjoy these books. They are longer than the short stories they were inspired by, but then both novels have extra twists and turns that add to the storyline and keep the suspense flowing.

Return of the Condor is far and away the best book on the subject. John Moir covered the condor recovery effort for magazines and newspapers for years and his extensive and award-winning journalism, including an investigative piece for Birding magazine, became this fine book. Moir presents a unique insider's view of the remarkable tale of saving a species from the brink of extinction. Down to a population of only twenty-two in the 1980s, the condor owes its survival and recovery to a team of scientists who flouted conventional wisdom and pursued the most controversial means to save it. John Moir's account shows the depth of their passion and courage and details the bitter controversy that led to a national debate over how to save America's largest bird. This new paperback edition includes an Afterword bringing the reader up to date on all that has happened in the efforts to save this magnificent bird in recent years since original publication of the book.

IT has become a universal custom to obtain and preserve the likenesses of one’s friends. Photographs are the most popular form of these likenesses, as they give the true exterior outlines and appearance, (except coloring) of the subjects. But how much more popular and useful does photography become, when it can be used as a means of securing plates from which to print photographs in a regular printing press, and, what is more astonishing and delightful, to produce the real colors of nature as shown in the subject, no matter how brilliant or varied. We quote from the December number of the Ladies’ Home Journal: “An excellent suggestion was recently made by the Department of Agriculture at Washington that the public schools of the country shall have a new holiday, to be known as Bird Day. Three cities have already adopted the suggestion, and it is likely that others will quickly follow. Of course, Bird Day will differ from its successful predecessor, Arbor Day. We can plant trees but not birds. It is suggested that Bird Day take the form of bird exhibitions, of bird exercises, of bird studies—any form of entertainment, in fact, which will bring children closer to their little brethren of the air, and in more intelligent sympathy with their life and ways. There is a wonderful story in bird life, and but few of our children know it. Few of our elders do, for that matter. A whole day of a year can well and profitably be given over to the birds. Than such study, nothing can be more interesting. The cultivation of an intimate acquaintanceship with our feathered friends is a source of genuine pleasure. We are under greater obligations to the birds than we dream of. Without them the world would be more barren than we imagine. Consequently, we have some duties which we owe them. What these duties are only a few of us know or have ever taken the trouble to find out. Our children should not be allowed to grow to maturity without this knowledge. The more they know of the birds the better men and women they will be. We can hardly encourage such studies too much.” Of all animated nature, birds are the most beautiful in coloring, most graceful in form and action, swiftest in motion and most perfect emblems of freedom. They are withal, very intelligent and have many remarkable traits, so that their habits and characteristics make a delightful study for all lovers of nature. In view of the facts, we feel that we are doing a useful work for the young, and one that will be appreciated by progressive parents, in placing within the easy possession of children in the homes these beautiful photographs of birds. The text is prepared with the view of giving the children as clear an idea as possible, of haunts, habits, characteristics and such other information as will lead them to love the birds and delight in their study and acquaintance.

The Return Of The Native written by Suky Best and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-01 with Nature photography categories.

"'The Return of the Native' was released to accompany the exhibition of the same name at Pump House Gallery, London, in 2005. This small-format publication, resembling the old fashioned Ladybird book of birds, chronicles this particular body of work by British artist, Suky Best. Highlighting the gradual disappearance of hitherto common types of wildlife from their former habitats across the UK, Best's work 'The Return of the Native' presents a series of vivid and disarming photographs and short video animations, through which she digitally reintroduces a number of birds and insects into landscapes where they were previously seen in significant numbers but where they are now virtually extinct. The slightly studied and stylised nature of each composition, in which the respective elements don't quite fit together, elicits a vague but deceptively disquieting sense of loss. This book features an introductory essay by one of Britain's best-known writers on birds and birdwatching, Stephen Moss author of Garden Birds (Collins) and Bird in the Bush: A Social History of Birdwatching (Arum Press). A further essay, by the artist and writer Nicky Coutts, considers the themes and motifs of these new works in the context of Best's broader artistic practice." [Publisher's statement].
