A wounded veteran who lost his purpose when he lost his legs in battle, and a single mother who only sees the hero he's become. He's lost his purpose... Callum McKay, was an SAS officer when a car bomb took his legs. After his recovery, he became partner in an international security firm - one that dealt with the things governments weren't able, or willing, to deal with. As far as Callum is concerned, he's still the same able, competent and commanding guy he was before his accident. And then, he was proven wrong. After a screwed up mission in South America, Callum realized he was no longer an asset to his team. He was a liability. With his purpose and faith in his abilities shattered, Callum turned his back on the security company and returned to the house his grandfather left him in Arness, Scotland. He was no longer fit for action. He was no longer fit for life. He was no use to anyone at all. ...she's giving it back...whether he wants it or not! Single mother, Isobel Sinclair, has made a lot of stupid decisions in her life. But the dumbest one has to be removing a dead body from the beach outside of her house. She panicked when she saw the dead man and was too scared to call the police, in case they found out her secrets and threw her in jail. Who would look after her kids if she was gone? No, there was no calling the police. That's why the body ended up in her freezer and she ended going to the most terrifying man in Arness to ask for help. Callum McKay was obviously hiding from the world and clearly didn't want to get involved with anyone or anything. Unfortunately for him, he wasn't going to get a choice in the matter - because only Callum could help Isobel now.

An urgent manifesto and a dramatic memoir of awakening, this is the story of revolutionary love. Finalist for the Dayton Literary Peace Prize • “In a world stricken with fear and turmoil, Valarie Kaur shows us how to summon our deepest wisdom.”—Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat Pray Love How do we love in a time of rage? How do we fix a broken world while not breaking ourselves? Valarie Kaur—renowned Sikh activist, filmmaker, and civil rights lawyer—describes revolutionary love as the call of our time, a radical, joyful practice that extends in three directions: to others, to our opponents, and to ourselves. It enjoins us to see no stranger but instead look at others and say: You are part of me I do not yet know. Starting from that place of wonder, the world begins to change: It is a practice that can transform a relationship, a community, a culture, even a nation. Kaur takes readers through her own riveting journey—as a brown girl growing up in California farmland finding her place in the world; as a young adult galvanized by the murders of Sikhs after 9/11; as a law student fighting injustices in American prisons and on Guantánamo Bay; as an activist working with communities recovering from xenophobic attacks; and as a woman trying to heal from her own experiences with police violence and sexual assault. Drawing from the wisdom of sages, scientists, and activists, Kaur reclaims love as an active, public, and revolutionary force that creates new possibilities for ourselves, our communities, and our world. See No Stranger helps us imagine new ways of being with each other—and with ourselves—so that together we can begin to build the world we want to see.

Raised To Rage written by Michael A. Milburn and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-08-08 with Political Science categories.

An argument that voter anger and authoritarian political attitudes can be traced to the displacement of anger, fear, and helplessness. Politicians routinely amplify and misdirect voters' anger and resentment to win their support. Opportunistic candidates encourage supporters to direct their anger toward Mexicans, Muslims, women, protestors, and others, rather than the true socioeconomic causes of their discontent. This book offers a compelling and novel explanation for political anger and the roots of authoritarian political attitudes. In Raised to Rage, Michael Milburn and Sheree Conrad connect vociferous opposition to immigrants, welfare, and abortion to the displacement of anger, fear, and helplessness. These emotions may be triggered by real economic and social instability, but Milburn and Conrad's research shows that the original source is in childhood brutalization or some other emotional trauma. Their research also shows that frequent experiences of physical punishment in childhood increase support in adulthood for punitive public policies, distorting the political process. Originally published in 1996, reprinted now with a new introduction by the authors that updates the empirical evidence and connects it to the current political situation, this book offers a timely consideration of a paradox in American politics: why voters are convinced by campaign rhetoric, exaggeration, and scapegoating to vote against their own interests.

THE RAGE is a collection of separate stories that all end in an average person getting so angry at someone that they resort to murder. I wanted to show that even normal people can be pushed, by various reasons or circumstances, past their normal rational judgement and commit actions that they normally would not do. For example, some people go crazy after losing a job while others go crazy for having their partner cheat on them. Some go crazy for even smaller things. Each story has characters briefly meeting or seeing a someone that happens to be a main character in the following story. Therefore, although all of the stories are different, they are connected only by these brief interactions.

In a quiet working-class neighborhood in east-end Toronto, on an early winter day in November 2003, Johnathon Madden returned home from school only to be bullied and threatened by is older brother, Kevin; Kevin's friend Tim Ferriman; and another teenager. the confrontation turned violent and fatal. Johnathon didn't have the strength or size to protect himself against the frenzied attack of his powerful 250-pound brother. Sibling violence may be as old as time, but this case is particularly disturbing and unsettling. Kevin Madden had problems. This was not news to his family, teachers, principal, social workers, and psychiatrists. but what drove him to commit murder - and why Johnathon? Why were his friends compelled to take part in the bloodletting? What events were going on behind the scenes that played a part in the tragedy? Jerry Langton, author of bestseller Fallen Angel, sets out to answer those questions and look for the clues that drove Kevin Madden over the edge. His investigation takes him onto the streets of Toronto, where he unearths a disturbing teen subculture, into cyberspace, and into the confidence of neighbors and students who knew the Madden Family. Langton reveals shocking testimony from the trials - one of which was declared a mistrial due to the perjury of a witness - and exposes the twisted lives of youth living in a parallel universe where death is met with complacency.
