A Pentecostal Commentary On Revelation written by Jon K. Newton and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-02-15 with Religion categories.

This new commentary approaches Revelation from a Pentecostal perspective, but you may be surprised at what this does and doesn’t mean in this case. This is a serious commentary based on the Greek text and includes discussion of all the standard topics (authorship, date, audience, etc.). It gives interpretive priority to the original context and audience while also discussing application today. Newton eschews all populist interpretations of Revelation and questions many assumptions built on futurist or historicist readings, but includes a survey of recent scholarly Pentecostal work on Revelation and an extended discussion of what an authentic Pentecostal reading of Revelation might look like. The commentary highlights features of Revelation that Pentecostals often look for, such as its pneumatology, but also draws attention to features that Pentecostal readers should take more seriously than they often do, such as its missional focus, the narrative flow, intertextual references, and the focus on atonement. This makes it a more optimistic commentary than many available. The commentary interacts in depth with five leading commentaries over the past twenty-five years as well as over two hundred other books and articles, including the oldest existing commentary on Revelation.

Where do we go after death? What happens to us? What factors influence our destiny? What will happen to the world in years to come? Is there a controlling divine force in human experience? Is there a plan, or is life a product of random occurrences, of chance? Why is it the righteous who are persecuted and suffer while the wicked seem to prosper? Is there justice in the universe? The book of Revelation offers answers to many of these questions. Since, however, it is one of the more difficult of the New Testament books to read and interpret, it is often overlooked, neglected or even avoided by today’s Christians. Yet it addresses many prophetic issues of importance to those seeking to understand God’s plan for the future. Speaking through its heavy symbolism and sometimes strange visions of heaven, angels, beasts, earthly turmoil and destruction, the Apocalypse offers hope that God will overcome evil and that he does indeed control human destiny.

Every serious student of the Bible desires to understand the text, discover the biblical principles, and apply the truths too his/her life. This commentary is designed to help students, pastors, and Bible teachers understand Revelation in a simple manner. Working from the popular New International Version (NIV), the author provides helpful commentary on the text verse-by-verse. This verse-by-verse commentary is different from others in two respects. First, it is brief while some commentaries are unnecessarily wordy and verbose. Second, it is Pentecostal in outlook. This implies that we generally adhere to the doctrine of biblical inerrancy and adopt a literalist approach to the interpretation of the Bible. Many people today regard Revelation as the most difficult and mysterious book in the New Testament. As the last book of the Bible, it describes the final consummation of all things. In Genesis, the paradise was lost; Revelation shows the new paradise where we will commune intimately with God.

The Book of Revelation is a remarkable text. A fascinating piece of Scripture as well as an extraordinary piece of literature, its interpretation has affected our theology, art and worship, and even international politics. Yet it is widely neglected in the church and almost entirely avoided from the pulpit. In this Tyndale Commentary, Ian Paul takes a disciplined approach to the text, paying careful attention to the ways that John draws from the Old Testament. Additionally, Paul examines how the original audience would have heard this message from John, and then draws helpful comments for contemporary reflection. The Tyndale Commentaries are designed to help the reader of the Bible understand what the text says and what it means. The Introduction to each book gives a concise but thorough treatment of its authorship, date, original setting, and purpose. Following a structural Analysis, the Commentary takes the book section by section, drawing out its main themes, and also comments on individual verses and problems of interpretation. Additional Notes provide fuller discussion of particular difficulties. In the new Old Testament volumes, the commentary on each section of the text is structured under three headings: Context, Comment, and Meaning. The goal is to explain the true meaning of the Bible and make its message plain.

Revelation: An Apostolic Commentary is a detailed journey through the Apostle John’s vision as given to him by the glorified Jesus Christ while in exile on the island of Patmos. The book uses a variety of methods to unlock some of the mysteries surrounding the apocalyptic language that permeates the prophetic book in order to give a realistic view of what should be a timeless and encouraging message to Christians around the world. In this book, the author explores such subjects as the purpose of the letters to the seven churches in Asia Minor, the series of judgments as portrayed by seals, trumpets and bowls, the character and career of the foretold Antichrist, and the eventual victory of Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords over the determined opposition of Satan and his legions. The overall message reverberating throughout the book serves to encourage the saints of God, both young and old, to persevere through life’s circumstances and trials, no matter how dire, receiving the ultimate prize awaiting all who ‘endure unto the end’.

The book of Revelation is perhaps the most theologically complex and literarily sophisticated text in the New Testament. In this commentary John Christopher Thomas and Frank Macchia make the brilliant but challenging text of Revelation more accessible and easier to understand on its own terms, rather than as a futuristic prophecy. In addition to their literary, exegetical, and theological analysis of the text, they offer sustained theological essays on the book's most significant themes and issues, accenting especially the underappreciated place of the Holy Spirit in the theology of the book.
