Este libro se enmarca en la búsqueda de poner en conocimiento investigativo y sistemático, la dimensión interpretativa de estilos y tendencias, individuales y grupales, en el contexto del lenguaje del joropo practicado en Colombia, desde 1970 hasta el año 2000. El objeto de estudio se delimita a tres arpistas representativos del lenguaje del joropo: David Parales Bello (1947), araucano y uno de los más antiguos arpistas del país. Mario Tineo Peroza (1954), araucano, caracterizado como el arpista criollo por excelencia. Darío Robayo (1959), de Cumaral, Meta. Arpista de tendencia urbana y depurada técnica interpretativa. El énfasis de esta investigación se sustenta en un enfoque artístico-interpretativo como factor determinante en la consolidación de diferentes estilos (norma individual) y tendencias del lenguaje del joropo en Colombia (norma social). En interacción directa estarán los aspectos contextuales, estéticos y técnico-organológicos, que aportan en la dimensión etnomusicológica. Este trabajo también pone en evidencia que desde un enfoque holístico en el modo de observar al músico, se logran vislumbrar de una manera clara y coherente las relaciones entre su contexto cultural, su personalidad y su producto sonoro. La personalidad artística es un tejido complejo de múltiples relaciones que permiten recorrer los campos culturales, cognitivos, valorativos y propiamente musicales. Desde la perspectiva etnomusicológica como desde una posible aplicación a procesos de pedagogía del instrumento, en esta investigación se resalta la integración de audio, video, partituras, análisis musical y contextual, como un aspecto novedoso en la producción investigativa referida a los músicos y a las músicas tradicionales de Colombia. Se espera que este trabajo se convierta en un aporte al conocimiento analítico musical, y que sea una contribución --a la manera de memoria artística-- a la valoración estética y al significado cultural de sus destacados intérpretes, quienes representan la expresión personal de un código cultural de inmensas proporciones en la región de los llanos colombo-venezolanos
