Las conexiones entre el Derecho del empleo y la Seguridad Social constituyen el objeto de la presente monografía. A partir del estudio de las medidas mas importantes de fomento del empleo estable, de la todavía predominante contratación temporal y precaria, o de propuestas teóricas que apuestan por el reparto o a la distribución del tiempo de trabajo se analiza cómo inciden estos fenomenos en un sistema de Seguridad Social como el español, revestido de caracteres contributivos por su origen, pero perfilado cada vez con mayores tintes de asistencialidad. Las carencias del sistema "público" de Seguridad Social dejan paso a tendencias nuevas inspiradas en una lógica "privatizadora" que refuerza el papel de las entidades privadas en la gestión de la Seguridad Social y apuesta por la previsión social voluntaria o complementaria. Sin embargo, dicha dinámica resulta insuficiente para hacer frente a dos contingencias enormemente receptivas a las decisiones legislativas en materia de empleo: la jubilación (analizada a partir de las últimas modificaciones legales) y el desempleo (carente todavía de una necesaria y profunda reforma).
