Esta pesquisa sobre violência, jovens e as relações de namoro surgiu da percepção do referido fenômeno tanto como objeto de intervenção profissional como manifesto na realidade social na qual estamos inseridos enquanto seres sociais. No decorrer da pesquisa identificou-se a forte presença do fenômeno e a existência de projetos e ações direcionados ao tema que reforçaram a necessidade de investigá-lo. O resgate histórico da violência nas relações amorosas e a identificação de instrumentos e ferramentas por diferentes autores auxiliaram a aplicação prática da pesquisa, a qual foi embasada por um questionário e uma escala de atitudes de violência no namoro aplicados ao público jovem universitário português. Por ser uma pesquisa de dissertação de mestrado, o livro está organizado em formato acadêmico: introdução, cinco capítulos e considerações finais, os quais foram estruturados com o objetivo de construir uma linha de raciocínio desde a fundamentação bibliográfica, até a aplicação dos instrumentos e, por fim, a discussão desses. A investigação foi realizada em Portugal e, por esse motivo, a escrita divide-se entre o português brasileiro e europeu. A pesquisa, para além de seu caráter investigativo, propõe expor um cenário real, vivido por diferentes gerações e que apresenta diferentes manifestações da questão social, as quais exigem novas formas de intervenção para uma sociedade com relações sociais mais justas, igualitárias e sem nenhuma forma de opressão.
