Possessing the uncanny ability to fry a television set from twenty paces can really wreck a girl’s social life... If you’re looking for proof, just ask sixteen-year-old Alexandra Parker. After catching her boyfriend in the arms of the prettiest girl in school, she made the journey from social elite to social pariah in a haze of electricity and exploding electronics. But finding herself at the bottom of Bay View High’s social hierarchy was nothing compared to the shock of discovering who—and what—she really is. After being zapped out of a burning bookstore by the mysterious Declan—a hero nearly as handsome as he is infuriating—Alex finds herself under the protection of the powerful Grayson family. It’s through them that she learns the truth: that the world she’s always known is nothing like it appears to be... and that she has far more in common with them than she might want to believe. Now, on the run from a fire-wielding hit man and a secretive government organization, Alex must navigate a strange and treacherous new world filled with superhuman mutants known as Variants. As she begins to unravel the many secrets of her family’s past, she uncovers the real reason for her parents’ death twelve years earlier—and finds out that the threat to her family, and to everyone she cares about, is still dangerously real. Revival is the first electrifying novel of The Variant Series. A page-turning YA paranormal series full of unexpected twists that will keep you reading late into the night and leave you craving the next installment. Revivalistics written by Ghil'ad Zuckermann and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-04-14 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

In this book, Ghil'ad Zuckermann introduces revivalistics, a new trans-disciplinary field of enquiry surrounding language reclamation, revitalization, and reinvigoration. Applying lessons from the Hebrew revival of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to contemporary endangered languages, Zuckermann takes readers along a fascinating and multifaceted journey into language revival and provides new insights into language genesis. Beginning with a critical analysis of Israeli-the language resulting from the Hebrew revival-Zuckermann's radical theory contradicts conventional accounts of the Hebrew revival and challenges the family tree model of historical linguistics. Revivalistics demonstrates how grammatical cross-fertilization with the revivalists' mother tongues is inevitable in the case of successful "revival languages." The second part of the book then applies these lessons from the Israeli language to revival movements in Australia and globally, describing the "why" and "how" of revivalistics. With examples from the Barngarla Aboriginal language of South Australia, Zuckermann proposes ethical, aesthetic, and utilitarian reasons for language revival and offers practical methods for reviving languages. Based on years of the author's research, fieldwork, and personal experience with language revivals all over the globe, Revivalistics offers ground-breaking theoretical and pragmatic contributions to the field of language reclamation, revitalization, and reinvigoration.

*Book #2 in the Variant Series* Alexandra Parker might be the most powerful Variant the world has ever seen—but even that won’t get her out of finishing her junior year of high school. Watch over Alex while she’s at school and do everything in his power to keep her from losing control. But as sparks of every kind begin flying between Alex and her new bodyguard, she's left feeling more unstable than ever. English literature is the mother lode to English-language speakers and deservedly so. The English have a rich history of writing with lights so bright they bedazzle the student: Shakespeare, Byron, Keats, Bronte, Shelly, Dickens, Chaucer and on and on. Yet English literature also competed with French, Russian, Chinese and many other literatures on the world stage. How has the language effected the literature? Does the English speaker feel drawn to Shakespeare the same as a Russian does to Pushkin? Did England fully share in the literary movements of the day? Can a small country possess the literary firepower to keep up with the giants? Does it matter? This new book presents an overview of the entire field of English literature as well as a selective bibliography indexed by subject, author and title for easy access.

In a manuscript in a Russian archive, an anonymous German eyewitness describes what he saw in Moscow during Napoleon's Russian campaign. Who was this nameless memoirist, and what brought him to Moscow in 1812? The search for answers to those questions uncovers a remarkable story of German and Russian life at the dawn of the modern age. Johannes Ambrosius Rosenstrauch (1768-1835), the manuscript's author, was a man always on the move and reinventing himself. He spent half his life in the Holy Roman Empire, and the other half in Russia. He was a barber-surgeon, an actor, and a merchant, as well as a Catholic, a Freemason, and a Lutheran pastor. He saw the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, founded a business that flourished for sixty years, and took part in the Enlightenment, the consumer revolution, the Pietist Awakening, and Russia's colonization of the Black Sea steppe. A restless wanderer and seeker, but also the progenitor of an influential merchant family, he was a characteristic figure both of the Age of Revolution and of the bourgeois era that followed. Presenting a broad panorama of life in the German lands and Russia from the Old Regime to modernity, this microhistory explores how individual people shape, and are shaped by, the historical forces of their time.

An indispensable guide to hundreds of important modern versions of earlier typefaces, presenting clear and concise discussions of origins, permutations, and contemporary digital availability. For typographers, revival type forms an integral part of their font repertoire. Older classics such as Baskerville, Garamond, and Bodoni are imbedded fonts in standard operating system collections and continue to serve their users well, being the trusted go-to tools of the best professional designers. Yet all revivals are digital interpretations of lost originals. In almost every case, there is, and has to be, considerable selection, revising, and re-formatting involved. The nature of such work is little understood or appreciated. The definition, application, and use of type revivals has been neglected until now. No one selecting a typeface, or using type, should be without Jerry Kelly's Type Revivals.
