Everyone deserves a better life through a better home. Improving your home can upgrade your life. Are you thinking about remodeling, renovating, adding-on or building your home? "Revivify Your Home" will change how you approach your project. Author Grace Mase, founder and CEO of BEYREP, is like a fairy godmother for home improvements. She will provide you peace of mind by helping you take control of your home improvement project and avoid the costly heartaches. Like tidying up with Marie Kondo’s KonMari Method, Grace will show you a simple and strategic framework to guide you through the journey to successfully achieve your home improvement goals. When starting a major home improvement project, many homeowners would cold-call contractors or glorified handymen to gut and remodel their house without an architectural plan. It is like asking urgent care to perform delicate heart surgery without an attending heart surgeon's guidance. Fortunately, no reputable urgent care facility would take such a request, but not all contractors and handymen share the same ethical standards. This approach is a huge gamble. Perhaps it is not surprising that homeowner frustration with home improvement projects has consistently ranked as one of the top consumer complaints nationwide for over twenty years, according to the National Association of Consumer Agency Administrators and the Consumer Federation of America. Grace has heard many horror stories of home improvement projects gone wrong and transformed several potential disasters into successful projects. With architecture degrees from UC Berkeley and Yale University and experience as a former UC Berkeley Campus Architect, she has numerous successful renovation projects under her professional belt. Many homeowners stumble through their home improvement project because they are not prepared and don’t know what to expect. They don’t enjoy it and feel like they are on an emotional rollercoaster. Most of them don’t realize that renovating or remodeling their home is a significant emotional as well as a financial investment and rush in unprepared for such a significant undertaking. Others want to improve their home, but never take the first step because of their fear of being taken advantage of, or fear of the unknown. Grace will guide you through the process of planning strategically, preparing mentally and emotionally, and making smart decisions that save time and save money. Drawn from her experience on thousands of projects, Grace shares her proven process that resulted in the creation of her patented BEYREP personalized online home improvement tool. Each chapter contains key insights, best practices, and strategies to help you through the process and bring order to chaos, ensuring your home improvement will be a rewarding experience that you’ll enjoy for a lifetime. "Revivify Your Home: Take Control of Your Home Improvement With Peace of Mind and Level Up Your Life" will help you upgrade your life by empowering you to improve your home with confidence and peace of mind.

Jens Jensen (1860-1951) was one of America's most distinguished landscape architects and a pioneering conservationist. During his long and productive career, this Danish-born visionary worked for and with some of the country's most prominent citizens and architects, including Henry Ford, Louis Sullivan, and Frank Lloyd Wright. He became internationally renowned for his design of landscapes throughout the Midwest and beyond, his contributions to the American conservation movement, and his design philosophy that emphasized the significance of nature in people's lives. He found inspiration in the landscape, particularly the plants native to a region, and was an environmentalist long before the term became popular. Today, Jensen is perhaps best remembered for establishing The Clearing on Wisconsin's Door County Peninsula. But the outspoken views in his writings - many of which were included in ephemeral planning reports, early newspapers, and now out-of-print journals - are virtually forgotten, with the exception of his two small books. "Jens Jensen: Writings Inspired by Nature" is an anthology of Jensen's most significant yet lesser-known articles, including a "Saturday Evening Post" piece that enabled him to reach the largest audience of his publishing career. The scope of Jensen's thoughts represented in this collection will further solidify his legacy and rightful place alongside conservation leaders such as John Muir and Aldo Leopold.

Despite well documented health risks, young women are still drawn to the act of smoking and continue to smoke at an alarming rate. A century ago, women were vocal leaders of campaigns against tobacco across North America. In Sex, Lies, and Cigarettes, Sharon Anne Cook explores the history of the paradoxical relationship between women and the cigarette, in a sensitive and lively description of the many different meanings that smoking has held for women. Focusing on the social context of smoking, Cook explores its allure for elite, middle-class, working, and marginalized women from the late-nineteenth to the early twenty-first centuries. She argues that smoking's attraction is rooted in women's changing identity formation and in strategies for empowerment, an idea enriched through extensive analysis of visual culture. It is in these images (yearbooks, posters, photographic collages, print advertisements, billboards, movies) but also in the act of smoking itself, that women harnessed the power of the visual. Smoking remains a powerful way for women to express themselves and is closely connected to the processes of modernity, sexualization, and commodification of desire. Textual documents (newspapers, magazine features, textbooks, teachers' guides) and oral testimony are also explored to show how dominant discourses of smoking, sexuality, and health have shaped women's experiences and how women have moulded these discourses themselves. The first comprehensive study of women and smoking in Canada, Sex, Lies, and Cigarettes creates a rich portrait of the cultural factors that have resulted in over a century of women smokers.

"Prayer is a refuge of God's great mercy to the human race." The refuge is a place of inner stillness and peace where the heart is fully opened to the embrace of God's love. It is a return to the ancient paradise from which the human race, in Adam, had to depart because of disobedience to the command of God. The Refuge is an exposition of the concrete actions we should take if we truly desire to live with and in God. It weaves together meditations on scripture (from the Psalms in particular) and amplifies these with the wisdom of early Christian saints, in particular the ascetical writings of St. John of the Ladder, St. Macarius the Great, and St. Isaac the Syrian. It is an active exhortation for us to reacquire the original nobility with which God fashioned us in the beginning.

Miami Vice captures the glitter and glamour embodied by Crockett and Tubbs and offers students an anatomy of a ground-breaking work in the police procedural genre. Explores Miami Vice’s combination of disparate influences (MTV, film noir, soap opera, ‘high concept’ action films) as well as the social, cultural and industrial moments when it burst onto the network Introduces readers to major components of televisual analysis--style, storytelling, the television show as commodity and ideological critique-- that illustrate the show’s unique features Provides a model for students’ own assessment of other shows, and confirms precisely how--and on what terms--Miami Vice redefined the police drama and an era

Written to meet the needs of thousands of students and pre-professional singers participating in production workshops and classes in opera and musical theater, Acting for Singers leads singing performers step by step from the studio or classroom through audition and rehearsals to a successful performance. Using a clear, systematic, positive approach, this practical guide explains how to analyze a script or libretto, shows how to develop a character building on material in the score, and gives the singing performer the tools to act believably. More than just a "how-to" acting book, however, Acting for Singers also addresses the problems of concentration, trust, projection, communication, and the self-doubt that often afflicts singers pursuing the goal of believable performance. Part I establishes the basic principles of acting and singing together, and teaches the reader how to improvise as a key tool to explore and develop characters. Part II teaches the singer how to analyze theatrical work for rehearsing and performing. Using concrete examples from Carmen and West Side Story, and imaginative exercises following each chapter, this text teaches all singers how to be effective singing actors.

How nineteenth-century women used the Bible to claim their voice on the moral questions of their day Caught between their identity as Christians and social norms that silenced them, American women used scripture to claim moral and then rhetorical agency. They reinterpreted familiar biblical passages, recovered previously ignored stories about women, and contested passages used to circumscribe women's activities. By strategically adopting a rhetorical posture of dissent, these women became prophetic voices in American society. In Your Daughters Will Prophesy, Lisa Marie Gring-Pemble and Martha Watson analyze the argumentative resources four women—Jarena Lee, Sarah Moore Grimké, Lucretia Coffin Mott, and Frances Willard—used to counter gendered restrictions and gain access to platform and pulpit, catalyzing what became known as the woman's movement.
