Shabby Chic and Richelieu embroidery fit very well together. Both totally noble and white in white. It's time to try out this beautiful embroidery technique. This book shows mostly based on historical works in detail how to make Richelieu cutwork embroidery. As an author, I am happy that I have found some refinements to this embroidery technique: These are special filling stitches and application. In the book I show how master embroiderers worked and the book also gives impulses how to create a creative work with the classical knowledge and how tor draw his own pattern. A beautiful Richelieu embroidery has a lot to do with exercise in embroidery and inner rest, beginners in embroidery will probably have some problems. Richelieu cutwork is more advanced or at least for patient persons. On my website edith-bloecher.com, I sell besides this book big pattern sheets for Richelieu and pattern booklets from Poland.

Cutwork embroidery actually started with ordinary embroidery done in what is called blanket stitch, over marked outlines, so that the picture outline could show up clearly in the final picture as a clearly demarcated design on a cloth background. Later on, ladies doing fine embroidery on their panels, as well as nuns in convents in France and Italy, in the 12th century began to cut away portions of the fabric, and so cutwork embroidery was born. When I was a child, and was given a piece of future cutwork embroidery to do by my grandmother to keep me busy and occupied during the hot summer afternoons – it was either that, to prevent me from running out in the hot midday sun or take a 4 hour siesta – I decided that a siesta was infinitely preferable to doing fine needlework, with buttonhole stitches all over a silly design. And after the design was finished, my grandmother used to take out her beautiful golden scissors, shaped like a swan and cut out the fabric very carefully, so that there were empty holes in the fabric, connected with embroidered lines of needlework.

I do not know how long ago embroidery started, but I think through the centuries, women have turned to needlecraft and embroidery for pleasure. My grandmother told us that in her days, the young ladies did not work and was taught to do needlework and embroidery. Although times have changed and the love for embroidery still remains strong, women sadly neglect this art as they do not have time. The sewing machine is a quicker medium for embroidery and decorative stitching. You can make a room look homely, cozy, and beautiful with needlework and embroidery. It can be embroidered tablecloths, runners, cushions, table mats, wall hangings, pictures, bed linen, and many more. All these things can become possible to you by taking each page step by step and practicing the various stitches and methods. To those who are already experienced machinists, sewing machine embroidery will be much easier. Others may find it a little more difficult, but it can be overcome with a lot of practice and perseverance. This type of machine embroidery needs a lot of practice, but once you acquire control of the machine and embroidery hoop, there is no end to the possibilities of the work that can be done. I hope that the sewing machine no longer will be regarded as the machine for sewing hems, mending, curtains, and dressmaking but as the means for enjoyment in producing beautiful machine embroidery for the home and family.
