In The Wahhabis seen through European Eyes (1772-1830) Giovanni Bonacina offers an account of the early reactions in Europe to the rise of the Wahhabi movement in Arabia. Un viaggio raccontato attraverso la pittura, in oltre ottanta tele dipinte a tempera e acquerello, e con l'ausilio di una ricca antologia di brani letterari, che hanno per oggetto altrettanti luoghi, famosi o quasi sconosciuti, appartenenti a gran parte delle regioni italiane e di alcuni dei paesi che affacciano su questo mare, dalla Croazia alla Grecia, dalla Turchia alla Siria e Israele, dall'Egitto al Marocco, dalla Francia alla Spagna. Si tratta di una lunga circumnavigazione, per lo più sotto costa, che inizia dalla Riva degli Schiavoni a Venezia per finire al Porto di Ripa a Roma, due luoghi emblematici del Mediterraneo che, grazie alla centralità del nostro paese, hanno contribuito in modo determinante alla storia e alla geografia di questa parte del mondo. Un viaggio, concepito per essere intrapreso a piedi, su percorsi secondari, o per mare in barca a vela, e quindi improntato alla lentezza e alla leggerezza, in cui la pittura vuole essere ascolto di quanto questi luoghi hanno ancora da raccontare ma anche ricordo di emozioni e suggestioni di colori e di luce, percepite ora avvicinandosi ad una costa, ora entrando in porto, ora, una volta sbarcati, inoltrandosi sulla terraferma, nel tessuto vivo di città e borghi costieri, o verso mete più interne, comunque legate al mare. Nato a L'Aquila nel 1949, Domenico Colasante, architetto, pittore e saggista ha coltivato sin dalla sua adolescenza una innata passione per l'arte, la natura e per la storia del territorio. In tale ambito ha pubblicato diversi saggi su Roma e sul territorio abruzzese come La metropoli spontanea, Il caso di Roma (1994), Stazioni in movimento (2005), Il Taglio nella roccia. Tagliacozzo e il suo territorio dal Medioevo al Novecento (2006), L'Orefice del Re, Ascanio da Tagliacozzo e il suo tempo (2007), Rovere, la storia e il luogo (2008), In treno dal Tirreno all'Adriatico (2009). Il paesaggio del Mediterraneo è al centro della sua più recente ricerca artistica ricorrendo in prevalenza alle tecniche del pastello, della tempera e dell'acquerello; allievo del grande acquerellista romano Angelo Marinucci, ha esposto le sue opere a Roma in diverse gallerie e nel 2011 a Chieti nel Museo dell'Università G. D'Annunzio di Chieti-Pescara.
