This book contains select papers on rings, monoids and module theory which are presented at the 3rd International Conference on Mathematics and Statistics (AUS-ICMS 2020) held at the American University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, from 6–9 February 2020. This conference was held in honour of the work of the distinguished algebraist Daniel D. Anderson. Many participants and colleagues from around the world felt it appropriate to acknowledge his broad and sweeping contributions to research in algebra by writing an edited volume in his honor. The topics covered are, inevitably, a cross-section of the vast expansion of modern algebra. The book is divided into two sections—surveys and recent research developments—with each section hopefully offering symbiotic utility to the reader. The book contains a balanced mix of survey papers, which will enable expert and non-expert alike to get a good overview of developments across a range of areas of algebra. The book is expected to be of interest to both beginning graduate students and experienced researchers.

This classic monograph is geared toward advanced undergraduates and graduate students. The treatment presupposes some familiarity with sets, groups, rings, and vector spaces. The four-part approach begins with examinations of sets and maps, monoids and groups, categories, and rings. The second part explores unique factorization domains, general module theory, semisimple rings and modules, and Artinian rings. Part three's topics include localization and tensor products, principal ideal domains, and applications of fundamental theorem. The fourth and final part covers algebraic field extensions and Dedekind domains. Exercises are provided at the end of each chapter. Dover (2014) republication of the edition originally published by Harper & Row Publishers, New York, 1974. See every Dover book in print at www.doverpublications.com

Ideal Theory Of Commutative Rings And Monoids written by Franz Halter-Koch and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-06-14 with Mathematics categories.

This book offers a concise treatment of multiplicative ideal theory in the language of multiplicative monoids. It presents a systematic development of the theory of weak ideal systems and weak module systems on arbitrary commutative monoids. Examples of monoids that are investigated include, but are not limited to, Mori monoids, Laskerian monoids, Prüfer monoids and Krull monoids. An in-depth study of various constructions from ring theory is also provided, with an emphasis on polynomial rings, Kronecker function rings and Nagata rings. The target audience is graduate students and researchers in ring and semigroup theory.

Textbook writing must be one of the cruelest of self-inflicted tortures. - Carl Faith Math Reviews 54: 5281 So why didn't I heed the warning of a wise colleague, especially one who is a great expert in the subject of modules and rings? The answer is simple: I did not learn about it until it was too late! My writing project in ring theory started in 1983 after I taught a year-long course in the subject at Berkeley. My original plan was to write up my lectures and publish them as a graduate text in a couple of years. My hopes of carrying out this plan on schedule were, however, quickly dashed as I began to realize how much material was at hand and how little time I had at my disposal. As the years went by, I added further material to my notes, and used them to teach different versions of the course. Eventually, I came to the realization that writing a single volume would not fully accomplish my original goal of giving a comprehensive treatment of basic ring theory. At the suggestion of Ulrike Schmickler-Hirzebruch, then Mathematics Editor of Springer-Verlag, I completed the first part of my project and published the write up in 1991 as A First Course in Noncommutative Rings, GTM 131, hereafter referred to as First Course (or simply FC).

This textbook is designed for a first course in ring theory, module theory and category theory. Written following several decades of teaching experience, it stands out with its clear and engaging style, featuring thorough explanations and attention to detail. Carefully selected exercises encourage active learning and problem-solving. The textbook integrates elementary category theory with basic concepts and examples developed throughout the course. Although the primary focus is on rings and modules, relevant notions for other algebraic structures, such as groups and semigroups, are also discussed. Thus, this book aims at introducing students to noncommutative rings and modules within a broader algebraic context. Aimed at advanced undergraduates or master students in mathematics, this textbook is suitable both for use in the classroom and self-study. Whereas the first part of the book covers a basic course in ring and module theory, the latter part includes optional deepening topics.

This book introduces a new point-set level approach to stable homotopy theory that has already had many applications and promises to have a lasting impact on the subject. Given the sphere spectrum $S$, the authors construct an associative, commutative, and unital smash product in a complete and cocomplete category of ``$S$-modules'' whose derived category is equivalent to the classical stable homotopy category. This construction allows for a simple and algebraically manageable definition of ``$S$-algebras'' and ``commutative $S$-algebras'' in terms of associative, or associative and commutative, products $R\wedge SR \longrightarrow R$. These notions are essentially equivalent to the earlier notions of $A {\infty $ and $E {\infty $ ring spectra, and the older notions feed naturally into the new framework to provide plentiful examples. There is an equally simple definition of $R$-modules in terms of maps $R\wedge SM\longrightarrow M$. When $R$ is commutative, the category of $R$-modules also has a
