Il libro nasce dalla constatazione che vi è scarsa conoscenza delle ricerche scientifiche che sono state svolte - nel mondo - sul sistema costruttivo ICF (Insulating Concrete Form) e che ne dimostrano (nel vero senso della parola, ovvero tramite sperimentazioni) i vantaggi in termini di economicità, sicurezza, risparmio energetico. L’autore ha quindi raccolto gran parte di tali ricerche e le ha analizzate e catalogate per tipologia, offrendo agli utenti una facile consultazione. Nell’insieme esse dimostrano che il sistema costruttivo ICF dispone di un background scientifico davvero importante e ormai consolidato a livello internazionale, non solo su tematiche inerenti i “normali” aspetti prestazionali, ma anche a riguardo di azioni eccezionali, come ad esempio le esplosioni e gli uragani. Ciascuna ricerca è organizzata nel libro mediante una scheda esplicativa che la riassume fornendone i riferimenti autorali e indicazioni sui contenuti. Il volume contiene inoltre una parte introduttiva che illustra in termini generali le caratteristiche del sistema ICF, nonchè una sezione dedicata alle immagini di edifici in corso di costruzione per comprendere a fondo la tecnologia costruttiva.

The idea of this book directly followed the realization of how scarce the information is on the scientific research carried out all over the world on ICFs (Insulating Concrete Forms). These studies were conducted through testing and experimentation and offer scientific evidence on the economic, safety and energetic benefits of the ICF construction system. Therefore, the author of the present book collected, analyzed and catalogued by typology fifty pieces of research that are now available for rapide use and easy consultation. The collective reading of these works shows that ICFs make a construction system with a relevant and internationally consolidated scientific background concerning both the usual performativity and exceptional aspects like explosions and tornadoes. Each summary is followed by a few explicatory lines listing the topic and the references to the author. The volume also presents an introductory part in which the main specifications of the ICF system are described, and a section devoted to the pictures of buildings under construction to better illustrate this construction technology.

L’Unione europea si trova oggi dinanzi a “sfide senza precedenti” determinate da una maggiore importazione di energia, dalla scarsità delle risorse energetiche, oltre che dalla necessità di limitare i cambiamenti economici e di superare la crisi congiunturale: per far fronte efficacemente a tali sfide, l’efficienza energetica rappresenta uno strumento insostituibile, contribuendo a migliorare la sicurezza di approvvigionamento dell’Unione ed a ridurre le emissioni degli agenti inquinanti.
