The research presented in this book is based on a framework of practices and values that form part of an experience known as "The School of Secrets" (2003-2020) . This school proposes an aesthetic, ethical and spiritual educational experience through which urban, contemporary women can return to those ancient practices that have allowed them, from time immemorial, to develop the sensitivity and ability to read both the cycles of nature and the cosmos, as well as their own biological and psychic bodies. These practices and values are examined from an aesthetic point of view, centered in the experience of shamanism as a path to access knowledge and a way to manifest transformation, recognizing its intrinsic condition as aesthetic education. With both a theoretical and empirical perspective, this book has a particular focus on the work of Carmen Vicente, shaman and Indigenous artist from Ecuador, and creator of The School of Secrets and the author's experience gathered throughout 20 years of Carmen's close mentorship.

The Femmenstruation Rites Rag written by Brackin Firecracker and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000 with Feminists categories.

This unstapled, extended compilation zine with over fifty contributors from 2000 was compiled by Brackin Firecracker, a feminist zinester whose love of menstruation is the centerpiece for the zine. The contributors touch on all aspects of radical menstruation, from free-flowing blood, to alternative menstrual products like the Keeper and Gladrags, to moon cycle orienting of the menstrual cycle. Brackin cites extensively from Inga Muscio's Cunt, and also from other positive-menstruation zines and books like Wives Tales, Plastic Vagina, The Period Conspiracy, Blessing of the Blood, and Blood, Bread, and Roses: How Menstruation Created the World. Other topics include menstrual calendars, Toxic Shock Syndrome and advising against tampon use, first period stories, support for queer and transgender communities, a reflection on Anne Frank and one on Kathy Acker, DIY cloth pad instructions, the importance of "moon lodges" for women, and an extended section on cures for cramps that mostly describe herbal cures for cramping and dysmenorrehea. In challenging many stereotypes of cleanliness and the "feminine hygiene industry," the author encourages artistic expression like performance art about menstruation and paintings made with menstrual blood. Cartoons are reprinted from World War III, Our Bodies Ourselves, and also include original submissions.

The Seven Sacred Rites Of Menarche written by Kristi Meisenbach Boylan and has been published by Santa Monica Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001 with Menarche categories.

Kristi Meisenbach Boylan follows up her highly acclaimedThe Seven Sacred Rites of Menopause with a beautifully written, insightful book about menarche--the first menstrual cycle--and its effect on a young girl's spiritual journey from maidenhood to motherhood. While more and more parents are explaining in clear, open terms what happens physically to their daughters as they move through puberty, they often leave out the emotional implications. More importantly, they often fail to address the spiritual impact of the transition. Meisenbach Boylan believes that parents need to make room for positive rituals in the lives of their daughters. These rites can act as a spiritual map for our daughters to follow as they make their way through the perilous landscape of adolescence. Young girls need these rites in order to truly understand that menarche is the central event that occurs as they make the pilgrimage from the safe cocoon of their parent's world into a world of their own. And more importantly, they need these rites in order to understand that it's okay to weep and to feel lost and alone at certain points along the way. The author not only outlines these rites, but includes celebrations for parents and their daughters to share during this amazing time of growth. Although it often seems like an overnight event, the changes that transform a girl from maidenhood to motherhood do not happen instantaneously. The Seven Sacred Rites of Menarche shows parents how to join their daughters on this wondrous journey.

Blood Bread And Roses written by Judy Grahn and has been published by Beacon Press (MA) this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993 with Health & Fitness categories.

"Blood is everywhere in our society: on nightly T.V., in daily newspaper photos, in religious imagery. Yet menstrual blood is never mentioned and almost never seen, except privately by women. A girl's first period is usually kept secret, a source of embarrassment and irritation. Menstruation in our culture is invisible and irrelevant if properly hidden, shameful and unclean if not." "It was not always this way. Long ago, in cultures around the world, a girl's menarchal passage was a time of celebration and initiation, and a time for ceremony, often including special clothing and foods and a period of seclusion. Far more than a biological event, menstruation was a recognized mark of female power, a source of ritual and of awe." "The influence of early menstrual rites remains visible in our culture today. According to Judy Grahn, the ancient rites explain much of contemporary material culture - why women wear lipstick and eye makeup and adorn themselves with earrings and hair clasps, or why forks, bowls, chairs, rugs, and shoes originated, for instance. But Grahn also reveals the profound connections between ancient menstrual rites and the development of agriculture, mathematics, geometry, writing, calendars, horticulture, architecture, astronomy, cooking, money, and many other realms of knowledge. Blending archaeological data, ethnography, folklore, history, and myth, she constructs a new myth of origin for us all, demonstrating that menstruation is what made us human." "Blood, Bread, and Roses reclaims woman's myths and stories, chronicling the ways in which women's actions and the teaching of myth have interacted over the millennia. Grahn argues that culture has been a weaving between the genders, a sharing of wisdom derived from menstruation. Her rich interpretations of ancient menstrual rites give us a new and hopeful story of culture's beginnings based on the integration of body, mind, and spirit found women's traditions. Blood, Bread, and Roses offers all of us a way back to understanding the true meaning of women's menstrual power."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Blood Relations written by Chris Knight and has been published by Yale University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-15 with Health & Fitness categories.

The emergence of symbolic culture is generally linked with the development of the hunger-gatherer adaptation based on a sexual division of labor. This original and ingenious book presents a new theory of how this symbolic domain originated. Integrating perspectives of evolutionary biography and social anthropology within a Marxist framework, Chris Knight rejects the common assumption that human culture was a modified extension of primate behavior and argues instead that it was the product of an immense social, sexual, and political revolution initiated by women. Culture became established, says Knight, when evolving human females began to assert collective control over their own sexuality, refusing sex to all males except those who came to them with provisions. Women usually timed their ban on sexual relations with their periods of infertility while they were menstruating, and to the extent that their solidarity drew women together, these periods tended to occur in synchrony. The result was that every month with the onset of menstruation, sexual relations were ruptured in a collective, ritualistic way as the prelude to each successful hunting expedition. This ritual act was the means through which women motivated men not only to hunt but also to concentrate energies on bringing back the meat. Knight shows how this hypothesis sheds light on the roots of such cultural traditions as totemic rituals, incest and menstrual taboos, blood-sacrifice, and hunters’ atonement rites. Providing detailed ethnographic documentation, he also explains how Native American, Australian Aboriginal, and other magico-religious myths can be read as derivatives of the same symbolic logic.
