Holocaust Intersections written by Axel Bangert and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-05 with Foreign Language Study categories.

Recent representations of the Holocaust have increasingly required us to think beyond rigid demarcations of nation and history, medium and genre. Holocaust Intersections sets out to investigate the many points of conjunction between these categories in recent images of genocide. The book examines transnational constellations in Holocaust cinema and television in Europe, disclosing instances of border-crossing and boundary-troubling at levels of production, distribution and reception. It highlights intersections between film genres, through intertextuality and pastiche, and the deployment of audiovisual Holocaust memory and testimony. Finally, the volume addresses connections between the Holocaust and other histories of genocide in the visual culture of the new millennium, engaging with the questions of transhistoricity and intercultural perspective. Drawing on a wide variety of different media - from cinema and television to installation art and the internet - and on the most recent scholarship on responses to the Holocaust, the volume aims to update our understanding of how visual culture looks at the Holocaust and genocide today. This collection of essays surveys some of the artistic productions by female figures who stood at the forefront of Italian modernity in the fields of literature, photography, and even the theatre, in order to explore how artistic engagement in women informed their views on, and reactions to the challenges of a changing society and a ‘disinhibiting’ intellectual landscape. However, one other objective takes on a central role in this volume: that of opening a window on the re-definition of the subjectivity of the self that occurred during an intriguing and still not fully studied period of artistic and societal changes. In particular, the present volume aims to define a female Italian Modernism which can be seen as complementary, and not necessarily in opposition, to its male counterpart.

Memoirs of a Jew, born in 1928 in Fiume (now Rijeka, in Croatia), relating her experiences in the Holocaust. From 1938 the family suffered the consequences of the Racial Laws. Weiss's brother immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1939. When Italy entered the war, her father, a Hungarian national, was deported to southern Italy. Her mother took care of the family business until the Nazi occupation in September 1943. Then Weiss, with her mother and two sisters, found refuge in a village in Emilia-Romagna. In April 1944, together with other Jews, they tried to reach the Swiss border but they were detained by fascist policemen who handed them over to the Nazis. They were interned at the Fossoli di Carpi camp and then deported to Auschwitz. Weiss and an older sister survived until the liberation in January 1945. They returned to Italy and were reunited with their father. In 1948 Weiss immigrated to Israel; her sister followed in 1954, and her father in 1969.
